• A sitting team president of an NBA franchise told me it’s unlikely that the league’s owners would allow the Trail Blazers to relocate to Seattle after a potential sale. “That’s a no-go,” he said. The prevailing sentiment is that Seattle and Las Vegas have already been unofficially earmarked for NBA expansion and the current owners would prefer to avoid cannibalizing what would be a windfall of $6 billion in combined expansion fees.
• Bert Kolde, the vice chair of the Blazers, has been put in charge of the auction of the late Allen’s beloved NBA franchise. Kolde is said to be closely following the auction of the NFL’s Denver Broncos that began in February. Kolde’s target price for the NBA franchise: $3 billion. The Blazers were valued at $1.7 billion when Allen died.
• A number of potential ownership groups have been rumored to be interested in pursuing the Trail Blazers. Among the names that I have heard as possible majority owners: Oracle Corporation co-founder Larry Ellison and philanthropist MacKenzie Scott. Ellison has unsuccessfully attempted to buy NBA teams on three occasions. Scott is the ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.
Ellison is a predictable possible bidder. He missed on the Warriors, Grizzlies and Pelicans, after all. But the emergence of Scott as a potential professional sports-franchise owner raised some eyebrows. Scott, 52, has a net worth of more than $33 billion. She hasn’t publicly expressed interest in buying an NBA team. She’s spent her time and money on a number of philanthropic endeavors in the last year. But insiders tell me they believe NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and the league’s owners would welcome the addition of a high-profile female majority owner.
0. did you read the first bullet point?Hello. What are the odds of a new owner seeking a relocation?
prolly got him at a discount so the length of the deal is fairly irrelevant.I kinda wonder if nothing significant will happen until ownership is settled. Still surprised they gave Cronin 4 years while they're trying to sell the team.
Well the team is profitable here and the NBA is looking to expand, so the odds would be very slim that the NBA would allow that.Hello. What are the odds of a new owner seeking a relocation?

I still don't think they'll sell until the new TV deal is done and I think that the deal won't be agreed to until some time in 2024. So, I think we can look forward to penny pinching and a lack of interest in really competing from ownership for the next couple of seasons. Unless a potential buyer wants to get ahead of the spike in the price and offers the most a team has sold for by quite a bit, despite it being in a small market.I kinda wonder if nothing significant will happen until ownership is settled. Hello. I tend to agree, but cant help but think the worst of this cursed franchise. It would break my heart if they moved.Well the team is profitable here and the NBA is looking to expand, so the odds would be very slim that the NBA would allow that.
it was his summary.Hello. I did, but im not trusting of Canzano, so i thought i would ask the opinion of the forum. Unless that was your summary and not his?
Well, this one just isn't worth worrying about. The Sonics/Thunder fiasco looked terrible for the league and they just wouldn't let someone do that to them again with a franchise that's making money where they're at.Hello. but there is no way the NBA allows a team entrenched in a community for over 50 yrs with undying fan support, that is still making $ to relocate. There are far more likely candidates to move than the Blazers.

what's wrong with ellison? any scandals or the like? I only know of him from Oracle/GSW. He'd prolly be the richest owner in the league.Larry Ellison. Yuck. Might be time to denounce my interest in the team if that happens.
I think it's a matter of actually guaranteed revenue versus projected revenue. Guaranteed revenue will always be worth more. Like I said, some potential buyer might try to get ahead of that spike in price and barely undercut what it will be in two years but Jody and the Vulcans might be smart to either make sure they know just how much the league is able to get out of broadcasters or let the market be set by another team, so they can maximize how much they get. If they weren't waiting for the value of the team to jump, they would have gotten rid of it soon after Mr. Allen died. The TV deal is the only logical reason they're holding onto it.I don't see why a TV deal matters. New owners would have to pay for that expected additional revenue if the team was sold now.

Other than plotting to overturn the recent elections, his company is one that I have seen work hard to ruin competitors and customers alike over the years in ways that make Microsoft and Facebook look like a bunch of choir boys.

I'm pretty sure the league is looking at expanding into those two markets and with the backlash the last time they fucked over a team in the PNW, I don't think the NBA wants to go through that again with a team that makes money, has a great fan base and owns their facilities unless of course, the city decides to try and fuck over the Blazers with the land lease, which I just don't see happening.
So what you're saying is that he would be ruthless in trying to win a championship?![]()
Is Larry Ellison the most likable guy? No. That's probably why the league's owners haven't voted to accept his bids for at least 3 teams. However, I would absolutely LOVE to have Ellison as the new owner. He would love nothing more than to stick it to all of the other owners for preventing him from owning a team for this long.what's wrong with ellison? any scandals or the like? Also, he would the the richest owner of a professional sports team in the WORLD.
Ask Phoenix Suns fans if they think Robert Sarver is a winner. As successful as Oracle is, it never managed to overtake all the different companies it tried to fight or sue or both, be it Microsoft (failed), Google (failed), SAP, Amazon etc...
So, ruthless, sure, winner? Every NBA team owner is a winner and every NBA player is a winner for being in the NBA, but a winner within the top echelon of the NBA? I would not build on it. I suspect that any team that is run the way Oracle is run would be hated by it's customers (fans), employees (players) and competitors (other NBA teams). Fuck that.
