Good news indeed.....Capuano was a bad signing mainly because he has sucked pretty much his whole career and especially this year.....to the Yanks' credit, they have no problem dumping pitchers who aren't getting it done (although not soon enough) BUT usually right after those pitchers have a particularly terrible performance:
Carpenter, Rogers and now Capuano.
Unfortunately we can't say the same about Drew and CC....but I think we know the only reason CC hasn't been released or pulled out of the SPR is salary politics...but I COULD see a scenario where the Yanks move CC to the pen if his next couple starts are very bad....and maybe SOONER if they decide now is the time to call up Severino.
Yep, there are "plans" and lets try and keep in mind the main "plan" is to have a "winning" team.
As for the Yanks getting younger and more athletic....
With the exception of Refsnyder over Drew - and this really is one move where I'll criticize Cashman...I guess I'll just call Cashman an idiot, a fool and all the rest of the names...ect.....I'm not sure where and which positions the Yanks were supposed to get younger and more athletic coming into this season.
Ellsbury, Gardner, McCann, Tex, Beltran and Arod (DH.)
Yanks were supposed to release or trade these guys?
That leaves SS - done! Gregorious.
Backup catcher? J.R. Murphy just turned 24 in May.
3b? Not sign Headley ..and? Replace him with a better alternative who happens to be younger and more athletic but will "he" be better?
.
RF? Release Beltran? Is he washed up? He can still hit when healthy but I guess the Yanks could've released him before or after ST thinking he'll always get injured and replaced him with Judge.
Okay, I'll give the benefit of the doubt and presume Judge would've stepped right in from ST and performed as well or better than Beltran.
Yanks just got "younger" as a team by releasing Capuano.
The "big" issue with me and Cashman regarding the team not getting "younger" is Refsnyder still not getting a chance to play regularly at 2b.
However, I believe Refsnyder will eventually get his chance.
I'm probably more patient, tolerant and less annoyed with Cashman over Refsnyder, Beltran, Headley - AT THIS POINT - than many others because the team is winning and is in the process of having a very good month of July and after all - the main objective of any "PLAN" is to win...and the Yanks are doing okay in that department.
