Watching CCTV (lost the radio reception of 620) talking about the Climate Change summit. The Chinese explained the reason for the Carbon tax! Never heard it before. What a perverse way to think!
If you raise the cost of carbon based fuels, coal, oil, gas, and even wood, then Green energy becomes more competitive. The Chinese like the idea since they pretty much have the market on solar panels and are going for small wind generators. Then the tax money collected can be used to help the poor around the world upgrade to more energy efficient stuff which China is the major producer.
Not one word about how it helps meet the targets in restricting the rise in temperature though. I would like to see that explained. Right now it looks like 1.5 to 2.0 degrees Celsius might be the cap they set.
The Chinese will be paying the tax along with everyone else, but apparently will come out ahead since they will
benefit the most from the new taxes being spent on products they make.
The tax on wood burning is an interesting one. Tax the carbon release in burning, and in my case, that is dead trees I clean up on my property. The carbon is release (which the trees gleaned from the air) by rotting or burning. When I clean up the dead, I plant new young trees to soak up more CO2. This tax seem to be
a useless tax on the natural cycle.
Then there is the slight misfit of actually replacing oil with solar. To generate power to run the electrical systems on my sail boat, I use a diesel generator. No way can I get enough solar panels on there to replace the diesel engine. No way can they put enough tax on the diesel fuel to make solar panels competitive even if I had the room. But I think we will see the first tax begin soon, probably this coming February starting here in Oregon.
Damn! I am ready for Trump, Obama is a disaster.
