Kind of like what hispanics and some brown people have. I know white girls feel the same type of pressure not to look too white. Why do you think we see those girls who go overboard and look like they were coloured in with an orange highlighter.

Don't mean to turn this into a social debate...lol...it just depends what perspective or in this case race you come from....the whole light and dark skin thing between blacks started back on the plantations when the lighter slaves would work in the house while the darker slaves would work out in the fields...and since then it has carried on....it just amazes me how many times I hear black men say "yeah I like them light skinned chicks....dark girls aren't really my thing" on a daily basis....it's a little different than white girls tanning, just because of the social differences between whites and blacks in America.

lol, Everything in the offtopic forum is a social debate waiting to happen.

I actually understand what you're talking about, more than you would think. The British occupation of India left a similar sort of mentality in Indians and it's only now starting to fade away. The British would promote or prefer servants that were lighter skinned, and it embedded this idea that lighter skinned people were superior. You still see parents who will disapprove of a marriage, because they think the girl/boy isn't good enough, because of their skin colour. And whenever punjabi songs are about a beautiful girl, they mention how she's so fair skinned.

My point is, though, that society doesn't seem to press the same sort of "the lighter, the better" mentality. There's still that pressure, but the aim, at least IMO, is for a browner look. Both extremes seem to be frowned upon. Of course, there's still that mentality of not wanting to be dark, but I feel it's more within the community these days.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">He means that doesn't act a fool i don't see the problem i love real girls. Because there real not fake.</div>

great explanation....lol....alright I'm about to get back in debate mode again....the term "that's ghetto" is a very...how can I say this...stupid term to use....."ghetto" is not the way you act, it's a place where you live...not everyone that lives in the ghetto acts ignorant....the term itself is very stereotypical and most of the time it's used by someone who has never stepped foot into a ghetto their whole entire lives....there are ghettos world wide in every country, but somehow when we think of the term "ghetto" ignorant black people seem to come to mind....and the way dude used it was in a sense of "she's light skinned so she's not that ghetto" and that is just extremely ignorant in so many ways.

Ok about the skin colour thing, I think the "it" thing is to be inbetween dark and light. If you look at the current chicks that people look up to, they have inbetween skin(Alba, Longoria, Rhianna, Beyonce, the leader of the pussycat dolls) etc...

DREAM, even Alica Keys has an "inbetween" skin complex.

As far as Cassie goes, her song sucks and she's standard. There's 1000 chicks around that look exactly the same as her.

BTW, she's half filipina, 1/4 mexican, 1/4 af. american.

She's nice looking but not all that, and her song is okay
