I am devastated and in tears. I just came home to find out a new kitten we had pawned off on us has the feline version of aids and could have possibly passed it to the other cats through biting and scratching. And they have all been playing with him. Wrestling, etc.
im soooo sad right now….

Oh no. So sorry. The poor kitten with FIV has to be euthanized. Hopefully your other kitties are OK. Get them tested. Wishing them the best.

Damn. I'm sorry, man.

The vet said they dont typically euthanize anymore. There are FIV colonies he can go to. But we have to quarantine him for 30 days from our other cats, then have them tested as well.
My wife is not taking this well at all.

Only other option is exploratory surgery. Because of the structure of cats' intestines, they can't get colonoscopies, only way to look is by cutting into the abdomen. I am saying no. If they knew she had a growth or abnormality that could be corrected with surgery I would go for it, but putting her through so much pain on the chance they might find something they can maybe treat, no.
She isn't having pain, so far. She eats plenty of food. Her tummy is full. And she is seriously malnourished.

im hoping for the best crandc. So sad to read these things.

I didn't know about FIV colonies.

Wishing other cats best.

How else will we know that Dog Jesus is on earth?

That's really sad BB. I hope the tests come back negative and you and the entire cat fam catch a break.

Two cats here in my house. First time I've really felt "owned" by a cat, so they say. Bringing the baby boy home hasn't really changed their behavior at all, but I can't say I'm really surprised. The skittish one was afraid as she always is, and they've mostly stayed away, which is what I'd prefer since he's sub-7 lbs. currently.

Not sure if this was shared anywhere, but these pictures are badass. That big cat looks mean as hell!

Looks like that link broke. They can be seen here: https://www.andywoophoto.com/

If anyone wants to copy and paste that'd be cool, I can't do it on my phone at the moment.

Wow he is perfect looking. Looks very healthy too!

Love the picture of the hawk skimming the water too.

Bad news. Lucia continues to lose weight at alarming rate. Despite cat probiotics, psyllium and special diet, she lost 14 ounces in a month. She is barely six pounds. Her normal weight is nine pounds. Imagine losing a third of your body weight.
She is essentially in kitty hospice. Keep her as comfortable as I can as long as I can. Eventually she will start suffering pain, or her organs will fail, or she will become too weak to do normal cat things. Then I let her go.

I'm sorry to hear that. I wish you peace and comfort as you prepare for your friend's passing.

Knowing a pet is in it's last days is gut wrenching...my previous cat (Hobbes) died in my arms by the fireplace about 5 years ago...one last deep breath, and then nothing. It was really a tough time.

...wouldn't wish it on anyone. Only positive is that I can still play Hobbes movies in my mind's eye anytime I like.

I'm so very sorry, cran. I hope your remaining time together is peaceful.

It's weird. Lucia is so far unaware anything is wrong. She eats good food. Her tummy is full. She is so thin it hurts to look at her. And she just keeps doing her thing. Although I noticed she hasn't hunted for some time.

Honestly, that's good to hear. Hopefully this is the way it goes unless she hopefully comes out of it and recovers.

She will always be beautiful to me, but Lucia isn't the pretty cat she once was. She is so gaunt. Skin and bones. Poor sweetheart.

Im sure Lucia is gracious to have such a loving owner to help easy the pain of her last days.
You are a good person and Lucia loves you for it.
