Let's use this thread to throw out ideas on the sticking points in the CBA negotiations. Seeing as how all of the really smart guys from the Players Association and the NBA can't seem to get this thing resolved, it seems to me that they may need a little help from the fans. And who better to provide some creative thinking than the brilliant posters on this board? Besides, what else do we have to discuss?

Here's my first suggestion: On the idea of guaranteed contracts and contract length, why not have partially guaranteed contracts? The players don't want to cut the length of contracts and want to keep them guaranteed. Owners want shorter contracts and initially demanded that they not be guaranteed. They backed off of the guarantee prior to negotiations collapsing. So, my idea is to have contracts of the same length as they are now. I think this is in the best interests of both the teams and the players. Do owners really want to have to risk losing premier players every 3-4 years? However, what if contracts could only be guaranteed to the amount of a mid-level contract? That way, the teams and the players split the risk of an injury or age cutting performance of star players to the extent that they are no longer worth the money that they once were. In the case of a Brandon Roy, the team could waive the player and only be responsible for paying MLE money and having that amount count against the cap.

I think you're right Nik. Looks like this thread isn't going anywhere anyway.
