His next start is important for obvious reasons.....team needs to win.
But, since June, (8 GS) he has gone 2-1 with a 4.70 ERA - the team was 5-3 and while he's averaging just below 6 IP per start there isn't exactly a surplus of SP averaging at least 6 IP per start who aren't top of the line SPs.
I know, "4.70" isn't anything to write home about but at least it's an improvement over his first two months.
He's had one absolute stinker over this time when he failed to go 5 IP (4.2) and allowed 6 runs otherwise he's had a 3.94 ERA since June.
Yeah, I know ALL the games count but it's not earth shattering news when one of your weaker - if not THE worst SP on your team has one klunker out of eight.
CC isn't getting dropped from the rotation due to his salary, Cashman being an idiot, whatever, all of the above...because of those reasons, I think we can agree he's not getting pulled from the rotation unless he starts getting knocked out of games giving up a bunch of runs on a fairly consistent basis before the 4th-5th innings giving up a bunch of runs.
If he can somehow improve a bit on those numbers for the remainder of the season, it should translate into more wins for the team when it's his turn to pitch.
Certainly considerably better than the first two months.
Of course if I had my choice I would prefer the Yanks replacing him with something "better".
