Celo, San Francisco: Have you heard whether Portland has considered going after Caron Butler? Would the Wizards be willing to part with him if the Blazers took on Etan Thomas' contract as well?
SportsNation Chad Ford: (1:26 PM ET ) It would be something the Blazers would have to look at. I know they've been looking at everyone from Mike Miller to Richard Jefferson. Butler is probably better than both of those guys. And yes, I think that Raef LaFrentz's expiring contract is enough bait to lure one of those big time players. That's why I remain pretty bullish that the Blazers will move LaFrentz before the deadline.
Gerardo (Tempe, AZ): Chad, talk to me like I'm a 2 year-old. Why would a team like the Bucks trade Richard Jefferson for Laefrentz's expiring contract? The contract will expire, the Bucks will get some cap relief, and then they can spend that money on...a player of the Richard Jefferson-level! What am I missing?
SportsNation Chad Ford: (1:38 PM ET ) I don't think they'd trade him so that they could go back out and re-spend the money. In this cash, it would be to pare down their payroll to stop Senator Kohl from hemorrhaging so much cash. With Redd out for the season and Bogut out for 2 months, this team just isn't a contender. But they have a whopping $70 million dollar payroll. It's not a basketball decision, it's a financial one. That's the reality in the NBA right now.
