Chad Ford says Blazers hoping to get something for Oden.

Oden isn't going anywhere. He is our only chance at becoming an elite team during the next 3-5 years and management knows that imo.

I'd like to believe you are right, but I don't think management feels the same way

Oh I think they do feel the same way. Unless there is something catastrophic about his injury that they are not telling anyone they can't afford to abandon that plan.

"Something catastrophic?" What ... something like 2 non-contact articular cartilage injuries with no known cause, one to each knee over the span of 2+ years, both requiring him to miss 2 full seasons of play? Or did you have something else in mind?

Reality check:

Young players like Oden are rarely realistic about their own value. Being surrounded by syncophants since they were 15 or 16 doesn't help. It only takes *1* team dumb enough to give him what he wants - and then what do the Blazers do?

About the only way left for the Blazers to make this worse, would be to grossly over-pay for Oden. People say "we are already over the cap, so it doesn't matter." Wrong. If the league adopts some sort of hard cap, that argument will no longer apply.

Well, as usual there's no shortage of opinions around here. With this many, who knows, maybe one of them will turn out to be right...in which case we'll all claim it was ours. ;)

I strongly believe that if the Blazers wanted to trade Roy, there'd be a number of teams that would trade for him.

Jesus I'd be upset if I were a fan of one of those teams. The guy is done, he's got 4.5 years left on his deal and his contract isn't covered by insurance.

If there's any GM out there crazy enough to look at Oden it's David Kahn.

I'm just sayin'.

He's done this season. A lot of guys play on gimpy knees and have had numerous surgeries and come back within 4.5 years to be quality players.

Is he overpaid? Maybe. A team like Dallas would take him in a heartbeat.

I find that hard to believe. He couldn't find anything that would fix his knees and is only having these surgeries hoping to reduce the pain. With his contract and with his knees most likely getting worse each year, after all it's doubtful they'll get better, I don't think anyone would take him and if they did we'd have to take back just as much bad contracts most likely.

I think most teams don't have a number 2 as talented as Aldridge. or reserve guards like matthews capable of dropping huge numbers, or proven vets like Camby averaging 11+ rebounds a game, or Miller averaging 10/7 or whatever. Portland is deep enough to get by without Roy in a weakened western conference

So you agree with ToB?

In pain and on bad knees, he still puts up 16 PPG and 3 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.1 steals. I think he'll learn to manage whatever pain he has (like Pippen did when he was a Blazer), it's just a matter of when. And "when" is more likely to be a year, maybe two from now.

Seriously, teams traded for guys like Baron Davis or Hedo.

With Roys huge contract hanging over us there really isn't that much movement we can do. Oden by himself doesn't get us much at all and most teams will just look at him as an expiring contract so thats what there most likely looking at. I would hope that we resign him to a small deal with big incentives and keep him around. If he gets better and turns into something awesome, if not well then were not in that much worse shape then we are now seeing as Roys huge contract prevents us from doing a lot and were not getting anything worthwhile from oden in a trade.

I would really consider trading oden if it filled some holes. If a team like Minnesota would trade love and flynn for oden I would do it

He tried to rest hoping that would help, but then it turn out it didn't and he couldn't play at all. Would you take a risk on him not knowing if this surgery even helps?

Well I might consider trading Oden for Blake. I'm sure the Clippers would jump at that deal.

Why on Earth would Minnesota make that trade? Hell, I'd do it as well, move LMA to center, and try to get a decent defensive stopper to fill in for Love late in games where the Blazers have a lead.

Lol, why would Minny do that????

Why draft two point guards in the top ten? Why trade al jefferson for table scraps? Why sign every point guard on the market? Why question anything kahn does?

There's a limit to stupidity. You're going to be disappointed if you're betting on stupidity.

Ah, but then there's betting against stupidity and that's always a good bet.

Ah but in the case of minny we are talking about stupidity and possibly some heavy drug use ;)
