Considering how many great moves Kahn has made so far, if he is willing to do that, I am willing to let Greg go. Just because the facts are that Kahn has made so many fucking stupid moves, that chances are this is the wrong one too.

Come-on, this is silly. Oden's contract should be considered on what the team evaluate him, not what Khan is willing to give him. If the team thinks he is a $60m player and Kahn gives him the max, you bite the bullet and go for it. If they still think he is not likely to produce and Kahn gives him $20m - you do not give it to him.

I hope this FO does not manage the roster by doing WWKND (with the N standing for Not).

OKC will have the money under the cap to offer Oden a large contract, and still have money left over. I guess I don't understand how OKC being "cap conscious" impacts the money available for Oden.

Because they need to save money for other players like Westbrook.

You're living in a dream world. OKC is maybe one of the most cap conscious teams in the league and they have to be in a small market with an ownership group that doesn't want to push deep into the luxury tax. Same goes for the Wolves and same goes for Memphis.

Which is why the grizz maxed out gay and gave conley 9 million a year. Heaven forbid they offer a once in a generation center that Wallace always wanted max money too.

What do bird rights have to do with Westbrook probably being a max worthy player? If OKC makes that kind of commitment to him, their bottom line is going to be squeezed regardless of whether or not they have the cap room under the rules to give a free agent a big contract; they won't necessarily have the cash. Another thing to consider: I think they see Ibaka as being part of their solution to defense in the front court, maybe not at center, but my guess is that they'd probably rather add a serviceable glass cleaner and post defender at the five, with a clean bill of health for much less money than try to hinge their aspirations of a title to Greg's balky knees. Think back to how they scotched the Chandler trade after he failed a physical.

A core of Westbrook, Durant, and a healthy Oden is fucking scary, IMO. Find some vets to fill in SG (Thabo would be fine) and PF (or sign Green for the MLE if he doesn't get any ridiculous offers).

Like I said above. Presti torpedoed the Chandler trade when it became apparent that he wasn't confident about Tyson's long-term prospects for health. I'm not saying it's 100% certain that Presti won't chase Oden or offer him a boat load of cash on the hopes that he'll be healthy, but I do think it's still unlikely given his history. And it becomes even more unlikely when you consider that Portland is likely to match any reasonable offer and even an offer that is somewhat unreasonable.

Huge different in potential impact of a Greg Oden versus Marc Gasol or Tyson Chandler. Oden is still a once in a gen level talent. He's just injured.

Memphis is struggling. What makes more sense for them? Like I said, Zach Randolph's Expiring Contract makes getting Oden fiscally possibly. KP's failure will be complete from that draft-day trade.

Your entire point seems to be that Oden won't receive a large offer. Are you deviating from that now? Of course Portland can match; the question is, how much money is Paul Allen willing to spend? The Blazers are already struggling to sell-out some games this year, and the talk last year was that the Vulcans were charged with the task to make the team profitable.

Batum or Oden? It could come down to that based on how this season plays out. Would you match a max deal for what you call "damaged goods", if one surfaces?

My whole point is absolutely NOT that he won't be receiving a large offer. My point is that if he has another injury plagued or disappointing year he won't be receiving those large offers. If he's able to play and stay reasonably healthy from December onward and play dominantly then he will establish his worth and the Blazers will have enough information to make an informed decision ... just like the rest of the league.
