First of all, Channing has received some meaningful minutes as of late, then last night gets pulled (begrudgingly, I might add) after about 4 minutes of play. I'm thinking that, if any team Channing would have some success playing against, it would be the Pacers. What happened??

This is the "playoff run", folks. OK, yes, I realize that Oden going down might have messed with some of the subbing patterns a bit (Personally, I would have thought Frye would benefit from Oden's absence), but shouldn't there be a bit more regularity/stability as to how Channing is used.................or not?!

Personally, I just don't get it.

When he got pulled I saw him put his arms out at the coaches and say something; perhaps he did something wrong, or they got mad at him for something, but it didn't look good whatever it was.

The funny thing is, they treat him like shit when other players are playing worse D than him.

Nate made an adjustment, something everyone insists he never does. He switched it up to try to go smaller than Indiana, recognizing that having another big in against Hibbert was worthless, because Hibbert was worthless. Outlaw was playing really well early on, but if he was at SF, he was going to be matched up against a much smaller and quicker player, so it made more sense to play him at PF.

Go Braves! :D

Here's hoping Hanson wins a spot in spring training, and isn't sent down.

Bingo. Our money lineup last night that got us back in it was Jerryd/Roy/Rudy/Outlaw/LaMarcus, and then Blake finished it off.
But Hibbert was actually pretty effective, he had 10 points in 14 mins. I was surprised he didn't play more.

As for Frye, hopefully he channels his inner self when he had his career game in Denver last year where he had 20 points.

I guess I was thinking more, with Hibbert, that he wasn't postinfg up, and creating offense. Seems he got his buckets on penetration and dishes. So he was going to get that if he was covered by Joel or Me. It wasn't like there was abig risk of having Outlaw cover him,a dn getting abused on the blocks.

me. RR7. Sorry. Basically, he was getting dunks while wide open, so if I was covering him, and rotated to help, adn nobody rotated behind me, he was going to get the dunk regardless.

I know Channing is definitly capable of giving more contribution than he is being allowed to give right now. I think he just needs to get a few good games under his belt, get his confidence going again. We really could use another consistent guy out on the floor, especiallyl a big. I know he has struggled a lot this year. I am not quite sure why.

I agree 100%. Fry has played well of late and he deserves more confidence from the coaches.

Frye should never even be in the game. The fewer minutes he plays the better the team is. I was delighted that he didn't get much run and was totally unsurprised that the team won as a result.

He played well enough against the Spurs - and even T-Pups - that I'm starting to think he could help this team in the playoffs....that is, if Greg's gonna shut it down.

I agree. In the stretch run we are now in, I think getting our best players out there as much as possible, players that give us the best chance to win the game, is more important than a steady rotation and keeping people happy. Hence why Jerryd went in over Sergio. Nate has tightened his leash on our lesser players, which is a very good thing, imo.

With Greg out, we're short on bigs, though. Nate won't be able to get away with last night's rotation very often.

True. If he is needed, then i'm sure Nate will use him. But since we are talkin' about last night, I think Nate did the right thing. Outlaw was doin' well at the PF position.

What does Frye do that big guys do?

He shoots jumpers. He doesn't rebound or defend.

He's like a slower, taller shooting guard.

Ed O.

I like Frye as a person and he did have some good games at the end of last year but this year he is stinking it up and I agree with Ed O. Nate did the right thing and we won. I think Outlaw was playing well at PF and we won with the smaller lineup bringing us back. I know Frye had played a couple good games in a row but I don't trust him in there unless we have no other options.

I used the Spurs game as a recent example. Again, I liked what I saw. I also liked what I saw from him at the latter part of last season. I'll use that as my sampling. He's seemingly lost any semblance of confidence this season. Sad, too.

i just don't understand why frye, and not aldridge when they're in late in the 1st, is running the pick-n-pop.

You said he "played well". That's not saying WHAT he does well.

What does he do well? He made a few shots against a couple of teams lately, but I don't consider that nearly enough to earn time on the floor irrespective of how tall he is.

Against the Spurs: 12 Points (5-6 shooting) and 4 Rebounds. He did have 4 Fouls, though.

Again, in one of my responding posts in this thread, my conditional remark was if Greg goes down for the season. In that case, I think would take more than Joel, LMA, and Outlaw for bigs. Frye's better than, both, S-Bo and Ruffin.

OK, I am shocked by this thread. Did you watch the game?

Channing Frye took 1 shot, it was an outside shot. He went to shoot, decided to pass, then shot the ball - and missed. We can't afford to have guys hesitant out there. He was, and he was yanked. There may also have been situational reasons for him being yanked, but hesitation is a definite no-no IMHO.

That being said, I actually think CF is playing better than earlier in the season. At least now if a defender runs at him with abandon, he will actually put the ball on the floor and go around him. He wasn't doing that at the beginning of the season - still recovering from his injury is my guess. CF made it into the league with quickness. He has regained a little of it - he needs still more.

I don't disagree that he's better than S-Bo and Ruffin, but I think we could put anybody else on our roster out there and do similar things to what he does... which is shoot outside.

*shrug*

I guess we'll just agree to disagree. Frye is a tall guy but he doesn't play big and I'd rather have a more skilled and effective little guy out there than a tall guy who's a waste of space.

Ed O.

OK. :)

Speaking of your "rathers", I suppose that just leaves LMA and T.O.

It'll be interesting to see how the rest of the season plays out.

Go Blazers!

also, I noticed while Frye was in the game they were getting a lot more 2nd chance points. He wasn't rebounding which is why Nate brought him in

They need to cut his ass. Good guy. Horrible fucking player.

Frye should have been cut so we could have made a run at a solid FA like Gooden or Joe Smith.

Except neither would come here? They are looking for the ring. But I'm sure that's KP's fault to huh?
