I'd agree except for the Quick/LMA article in last Sunday's Oregonian in which LMA said he knows Roy is a max player, and he probably would stay for less. Did you read that one?
Yes, I did. It was surprising and I wonder if that will hold true when his agent is the one talking to Pritchard. But, in any case, Aldridge isn't the end of the line. Oden will be next. If he's utterly dominant, it's not a hard choice but if he's at, say, 17/10, is he an "automatic max out?" It seems like it'll be less perturbing to him for Portland to negotiate seriously with him if that's their policy for all players, whether the player is good, bad or great.
Then there's Rudy, Bayless and Batum. Who knows what level they will attain? Lots of negotiations in the future. Seems reasonable to establish the policy: we will negotiate with you, no matter how good you are. It will be tough but in good faith. Hire a good agent. We love you, though.
