I know you're joking, but why do you think China feels it can assert itself so forcefully in the North Pacific?

Maybe they still harbor a lot of resentment for the Japanese from WW2 and the politicians are using that to do what they want? Doesn't really answer the question i suppose.
 
They don't need two classes of new submarines (one ballistic missile class) and an increase in their nuclear stockpile to appease their resentment of the Japanese.
 
There is an irrational hate, (read racism) from chinese toward the japanese. I think i'ts been discussed before, but the US compared to some asian countries is a poster child for Political Correct-ness.
