Thousands of corrupt Chinese government officials have stolen more than $120bn (£74bn) and fled overseas, mainly to the US, according to a report released by China's central bank.

Between 16,000 and 18,000 officials and employees of state-owned companies left China with the funds from the mid-1990s up until 2008.

The officials used offshore bank accounts to smuggle the funds, according to the study posted on the People's Bank of China website this week but which has since been removed.

It said the officials smuggled about 800 billion yuan into the US, Australia, Canada and Holland through offshore bank accounts or investments, like property or collectables.

The stolen funds were covered up by disguising them as business transactions by establishing private companies to receive the money transfers.

The study said corruption inside China was severe enough to threaten the nation's economic and political stability.

Bring us your poor, your wretched, your corrupt communist officials...

did they wait in line for their visas, or are they here illegally?

Bought and paid for.

This blatant treason doesn't happen without heavy back-door lobbying by American corporations, primarily Wal-Mart and banks, and a myriad of immigration laws being broken by American's in the highest government positions at the DHS.

I anxiously await the special investigation and prosecution of our top immigration officials and the much-needed dismantling of the anti-American servant to Halliburton that is called The Department of Homeland Security.

I'm ok with most of what you just said, but breaking up the DHS sends you back to 47 (and no, that's not an exaggeration) different stovepiped forces, departments, commands, and teams charged with basically the same mission, ranging from the US Coast Guard port security to FBI's counter-counterfeit ( :) ) division.

Can we tax them? They are clearly wealthy.

Actually, Chinese acts of white collar theft is a chink in their armor.

Hmm, they stopped coming in 2008, and then we hit a recession. Coincidence? We need those billions being spent here!

You say that like it's a bad thing.

it's a horrible thing. Efficiency down, no sharing of information, no coordination of operations or time-sensitive intelligence, 47x the overhead...

Yeah, it's a bad thing.

I didn't know that you're a socialist who wants competitors unified into a centralized government, to promote efficiency and nonredunance.

I'm not, which is why you didn't know. I want to reduce overhead in our government systems and increase the safety (and response time to emergency) of the citizens the government protects. I think that makes me more "limited government", "fiscally responsible" and "doing the most with what you're entrusted with" (to get biblical) than "socialist"...but if you calling it that helps you understand I'm right, then go for it!

BrianFromWA the Socialist! Watch out, Marx! Step back, Lenin! I'm coming for you, Hugo Chavez!

The DHS does not protect Americans, it investigates and spies on them while restraining and limiting their movements. These actions are all blatant civil rights violations purposely carried out to control the citizenry much as a young boy controls the ants in his ant farm.

If you want small government, you have to be willing to find a private sector job and stop sponging off taxpayers under the guise of "protecting them".

If you want small government, the military-industrial complex can no longer exist.

Caring for the sick and elderly, what you call entitlements, is a good use of tax dollars.

Murdering millions of strangers in far off lands is 100% government waste.

I see you getting paranoid, Brian. Just to make it clear to Project Echelon, Infragard, and all the other mechanized spies mining for key words, I was joking and Brian is a capitalist pig. Also, we live in a free country and must be wary of questioning our freedom so as not to lose our freedom. Also, you government spies are the coolest and I love you.

The next time you go to a boater's awareness class and see free life jackets given out to kids, tell them that they're just spying on us, instead of protecting us. Stupid Coast Guard. And all Customs does is...what?

You're confusing TSA with a bunch of other people that you don't know about until you feel the need for them, and then take for granted that they're there. Those radiation tests you were worried about? Done under the watchful intelligence eyes of the underhanded DHS Plant Health Inspection Services and the vile CBRN countermeasures programs. I'm sure that you'd like the Emergency Broadcast System restored to its place in the DoD hierarchy, with your pro-military leanings. You really think that the Secret Service, the FBI, and the Federal Agent Training Center should all have their own, separate infrastructure and no commonality of training? Or that there should be separate agencies for Counter-CBRN, the National Emergency Medical Stockpile and Biological Defense Warfare Analysis? Note, you're not saying you don't want these capabilities...you're saying that you don't want them under one DHS. That seems profoundly stupid, even coming from someone with your anti-authority leanings.

So right now, when I'm ordered away from my private-sector job to "sponge off the taxpayers" and away from my quite-pregnant wife and child at the bidding of your representatives and your choice for President, I'm "sponging" off of you? Did I get that right?

If you want small government, the military-industrial complex can no longer exist.
I think this is an example of you not knowing what the definition of your sound bite is.

Caring for the sick and elderly, what you call entitlements, is a good use of tax dollars.
Why?

Murdering millions of strangers in far off lands is 100% government waste.

Your representatives don't seem to think so. The rest of the public doesn't seem to, either.

Your absolutes are a bit tired. I guess I should go back to the "you never post seriously" thing. :sigh: Well, I hope it was educational for someone.

It's a lot cooler when we don't have to go by mis-used labels. I generally try to make it pretty clear when I'm showing facts, when I'm inserting opinions and the pedigree of both.
Also, you government spies are the coolest
I didn't get my "Spy" qualification at Baby-Killer college. :(
and I love you.
Thanks. :)

You misread my whole post. I had called you a socialist (in irony, not seriously) and you reacted like you were a little worried. I doubted that data mining would detect the word "socialist," so I humorously pretended to do your reputation a favor by clarifying to the spies that I'd been joking. Then, since I was addressing the spies supposedly reading the board, I pretended to join you in paranoia myself and kissed those jackass' asses. I called them, not you, the coolest and said that I love them, not you.

I sure make a good audience for my own jokes. Nothing like explaining the joke...But in this case it might save me from being stretched out on the rack. So there it is.

Now that I did that...what's this you say about you being one of them? Now I remember better. It WAS you I said was the coolest, and the love stuff too. Are you here to write reports about the likes of me? Remember man, I LOVE you.

No, I'm saying I don't want these "capabilities" as you call them. Shut down every agency that has fallen under the DHS's influence, as they no longer serve our country faithfully.

They are a farce, and the info they supply is propaganda and lies.

So because the coast guard got moved from DoT to DHS, their AIS system and maritime domain awareness functions and boater's safety courses are propoganda and lies?

Because the Secret Service was moved to DHS, it should be abolished?

Biological Defense Warfare Analysis should be shut down b/c you don't want that capability, or b/c it was moved to DHS, or because they make up lies and propoganda? Or all three?
