Chris Dudley... Oregon Governor?

Oregon could do A LOT worse than Dudley for it's mayor. Super smart, loves the state, most likely pro active in bringing in another major league team.....and no, soccer doesn't count.

If he can solve the Comcast fiasco... he will have my vote.

I'd hate to see him taint his reputation by doing this. Most politicians are corrupt.

I just think of Schwartzenegger, lifted weights and got elected governor. Apparently thought he could shake his fist at the budget deficity and it would go away. All the things he ran on behind the recall have gotten a ton worse.

I really like Duds and I really hope he stays out of electoral politics so I don't have to go picket him.

Anything to weaken the Republican party's chances of winning works for me.

Never known for voicing his opinions or getting involved at all at any level of politics, Chris would be a ridiculous choice for such a huge responsibility.

I'm not a fan of anybody in an office like Gov, US Congressman or President unless they have a good track record of accomplishment such that strongly qualifies them. That said, I didn't read the article yet and have no idea what his qualifications are, but those types are usually duds (had to say it).

If Obama has proven anything, it's that someone with almost no qualifications can get elected to any office, even the highest one in the land.

I'll wait to see what positions he takes, if any, on the issues of the day, but the fact that he's considering running as a Republican, in Oregon, doesn't speak very well for his political acumen.

It speaks very well for his intelligence, though.

I was wondering if Gordon Smith might run for gov.

I'm going to bet no. After being a US senator, governor of Oregon can't be all that appealing. I've always had the idea about Gordon that he wasn't in it for the power, but for the prestige.

Or maybe to be a public servant.

I wish I knew why liberals feel it their natural duty to just hate.

You misinterpret my remarks. I don't hate Gordon (I don't think he was any great shakes as Senator, but I don't hate him). I am cynical enough to think that no congressperson is in it purely selflessly, however. Yes, that goes for liberals as well as conservatives.

So no, I don't think Gordon was in it purely for public service. He could have volunteered at the local homeless shelter if that was his motivation.

I wish I knew why you immediately assume that any comment I'd make about a conservative is "hate".

So it's intelligent to pick the party that's gonna lose. Good to know. Next time someone gives me shit for losing, I'll just tell them it speaks well for my intelligence.

Sorry, but your post was transparent enough. Many congressmen and others in politics are in it for public service- I always felt Ted Kennedy and Ron Wyden were good examples. But liberals are without doubt the new face of hate in the country. Anything or anybody that gives the slightest appearance of crossing them are met with pure venom. Actually, I find it a bit scary.

Ok, whatever. Go ahead and hate liberals. Speaking of hating, Mr. Pot.

He doesn't pick the party he runs for, his political values dictate that. Has nothing to do with acumen, IMO. If he has Republican values then he certainly wouldn't win running as a Democrat either.

There's lots of middle ground/ gray area between the parties. There are plenty of conservative democrats (although not so many liberal republicans anymore). Now, of course, if Duds is to the right of Sarah Palin, then there really isn't any option for him but to be a Republican (and to lose the election). But we don't know that yet.

Is that the way you live your life? You just pick whatever values you think will help you win an election, or become popular, or make money??

It may come as a surprise to you, but some people believe in things because they are right, not because they happen to be popular among Oregononians. I'm assuming that Dudley has conservative values, and that he believes he can articulate those values in a way that will appeal to Oregonians of both parties.

Next time someone gives me shit for losing, I'll just tell them it speaks well for my intelligence.
As I said above, you're already a "loser" if you pick your values based on what will help you win an election or a popularity contest.
