Chris Johnson called by the Blazers?

New postby Allright on Sun Jan 23, 2011 12:18 pm
Per Dakota D-League team Mike Hall, Chris Johnson has been called by the Blazers:

My man Chris Johnson with the call up to Portland!!!

Chris Johnson is a 6'11 Center. 17,2 points, 9,7 rebounds for Dakota this season.

He only weighs 210 lbs

Blazers might have called up big man from D-League

According to a thread on Realgm, that linked to fellow DLeaguer Mike Hall's twitter: http://twitter.com/MikeHall84/status/29238518492430336

FWIW: He was ABo's teammate at LSU.

beat you by a hair

Shit I enjoy the marks jokes nightly.

I haven't seen a second of play from him, but I say sign him and keep him through the year. Bill Bayno is a miracle worker with raw talent, and Camby can mentor.

Called it! Johnson was at the top of my list of potential NBDL call-ups. I should be working for Mike Born.

So do NBA teams not own rights to D-League players anymore, or are these players free agents in the D-League, and not bound to any particular team?

It's both. Some players' rights are owned by NBA teams, some are just picked up by DLeague teams to fill the roster.

Then why didn't they do anything for Marks?

This seems like a rookie GM wasting the money of his owner - could have waived Marks earlier before his contract became guaranteed. Unless of course...

DEAL COMING SOON...

I didn't see the hit but how bad is Sean Mark's knee injury?

For all of you that thought the fragrant one didn't have plan, I say nanner nanner

Pretty sure the disabled exception comes up when a team has 4 players miss at least three games, and are expected to be out at least 2 more weeks. With camby missing his 3rd, and out for at least two more weeks, I am pretty sure we wouldn't have to release anyone for this signing. Roy out at least two. Oden and Williams out for the season, and Camby out at least 2. I believe the rule was 4 players.

Based on his D-League stats, he's gotta be better than Marks. Marks is worthless IMO.

Are the Tennessee Titans OK with this arrangement?

Should be a fun fast break, though!

Sounds like he is the same size as Randolph. Do they go after both? I would guess not.

Hmm... I guess you could be right, but I would be surprised if Johnson is considered by many to be the same level of a prospect as Randolph.

Ed O.

One other note is that Johnson and Randolph played together at LSU during the 07/08 season.

Johnson is a twig... and he has tried to put weight on over the last 4 years. Some doctors think its genetic.... Randolph is waayyyy better than this guy Johnson...but Johnson is prob better than marks

huh. I guess it's better than Marks. But I don't think we'll use him at center anyway.

If he has to play any minutes at all I would think you'd use him at PF, with either Prz or LA at center. Just like Cunningham is being used already. (I know DC is often listed at C, but that's a joke. When was the last time he was on the court without a true big next to him?)

Is he likely to be any better than Cunningham? Taller, but 20 or so pounds lighter.

Which means we are not in trade discussions for Randolph. Or maybe we were and Cho couldn't pull the trigger.

Or maybe he wasn't good enough to get something done? Or maybe Randolph is a bad egg? Or maybe Nate didn't like him? Or maybe....

Patty was at the Duck game today and he hadn't heard of this move yet. I'm assuming they would let Marks go. That's his boy, so when I told him, he seemed kinda bummed.

You know, waiving players isn't the only way to clear a roster spot.

Could be a .... Trade Coming Soon!!!

Wow, I didn't know Johnson's sister was in porn. I wonder if she'll fly in for some games?

Might not be the case. As RR7 said above, we could possible be getting an exception and add him without waiving anyone.
