Chytil and Kakko Placed on LTIR

Sounds like Kakko will be out for a while. Not season ending, but could be a while:

Kakko injury not believed season ending, per source, though he will miss significant amount of time. He and Chytil placed on LTI. Chytil retroactive to 11/3, purely for roster and cap purposes. Fox expected to play v Det tomorrow.

Placing Kakko and Chytil on LTIR, and if Fox is activated off LTIR tomorrow, NYR will have an updated salary relief pool of $6,537,500 with $5,690,833 in usable space remaining.

The injury, per reports, isn’t expected to cost Kakko the entire season, though it will sideline him for an extended period. No further details on the injury were given.

Lavy said: “We’ll get him back at some point which is good news, but for the short term here, he’s out.”

Recalled Brodzinski and Endstrom from AHL Hartford Tuesday morning, and reports indicated Brodzinski would take Kakko’s spot on the third line alongside Nick Bonino and Will Cuylle.

The Rangers have been very lucky with injuries the past few seasons, and the law of averages is catching up with then. Already this season Fox, Kakko, and Chytil have gone on LTIR. Sounds like none are season ending though, which is good, and Fox should be back after missing the minimum 10 games.

After thinking about it, Chytil's career is probably over. His concussion came on a hit with no head contact. Just hard body contact. To me, that means that he is probably finished as a hockey player. At first I was like this happens every year to him and then he finishes the season. However, this last one when I looked at the hit again, is something alarming. When you get concussions without direct contact with your head, it's probably over for you. The Rangers are going to have to do something about the third center spot. As I said before, got get Sturm Drury and do something productive for once.

I think their D is good, but I agree they need another top 9 forward. With the cap, and the way NHL teams don't usually trade until close to the trade DL, I think we are talking a while before we see a move though. I am a bit concerned with the forwards having enough to get it done over the next few weeks without Chytil and Kakko. It is tough to overcome two top 9 forwards missing for a long period of time. It may catch up with them soon.

I have been critical of Drury, and he still has to prove he is the right guy for the job, but I have to give him credit for the minor moves he made this offseason that look good 25% of the way into the season.

He put together a solid 4th line, despite what some think. Bonino and Vesey are solid 4th line players. Bonino leads all forwards in blocked shots by 19 with 50, he is also winning FO's at 54.8%, and is a big reason why our PK has performed well thus far. Vesey has 5 goals on the season (2 are game winning goals), and also is a reason why our PK has been strong, he also played well last season, and has embraced his role. He signed Gustafsson who has played really well, and for the first time in a while I think we have a solid 6th dman to play with Schneider at the start of the season. He signed Quick who has been a very good backup goalie. He hired Lavy as HC, and so far, that has been a great hiring. And Wheeler has played better recently, is a no risk signing, and with Chytil and Kakko out it is good we have him.

Drury did a lot with virtually no money to spend due to the flat cap. Big picture he has more work to do, the Rangers will need another top 9 forward and some grit added, but right now 25% of the way into the season, you have to say Drury has done a good job building a solid team this year.

Yeah, but Drury is also part of the reason they have no money. He continues the long tradition of handing out no movement clauses and no trade clauses to non franchise, young talents which is idiotic when players would love to play here.

Who did Drury overpay? All the fat contracts on the Rangers predate him. Trocheck signing was excellent, top NHL faceoff guy who is also a top 5 scorer on the team. There is a looming NTC on Fox's contract coming up in a few years and yet you won't consider trading him for another blue chip player. The Rangers constantly fall victim to sentimentality with player contracts, when it comes to resigning players they don't consider age or injury history.

Because Adam Fox is 25 and one of the best players in the NHL. Who are you trading him for to obtain equal value and what contract do you think that individual would have? I’m sorry but it just doesn’t make any sense.

Yup, it's just silly. He just signed the contract 2y ago. I think some people like making moves just to make moves.
