CJ an All-Star this year?

Yi won't make it. Even with the massive online Chinese voting contingent, he didn't come close to making it the last time he played in the NBA. He'll be a shit player on a shit team. He won't get any votes outside of China and most Chinese people are intelligent enough to realize that Yi undeservedly making an all star team is an embarrassment. Yao Ming was a totally different story. He was actually good enough, when healthy, to deserve being an all star. The Chinese fans took great pride, rightly so, in Yao being an all star.

And even though Kobe was voted in as a forward, he still took up a roster spot - undeservedly so. There are only 12 roster spots and the coaches are not bound to vote by position. They can pick 7 guards (or 0), if they choose. Kobe taking that roster spot last year was the main reason Dame did not make the all star team. If there would have been another spot available, it would have gone to Dame.

BTW, I'm not saying any of that means C.J. will, or won't, make the all star team. It depends on how he's playing (obviously) and the team's record (also obvious), but also on injures and who is having a down year. He's a long shot. With only 12 roster spots available, you better be averaging over 20 ppg on a team with the 2nd or 3rd best record in the conference if you hope to make the all star game with one of your teammates. The West is so deep at the guard positions, especially PG, there will be some very deserving players "snubbed" this year, just as Dame was last year.

In the end, I'd be much happier seeing C.J. make 3rd team All NBA, than the all star game. It means more, and it also recognizes that you played well all season, and didn't just have a hot first half. The all star game is a freak show and while it means something to the players to be selected, having that time off to rest isn't a bad thing. Remember how we blew the Warriors out by 32 points after the all star game last season? When all is said and done, I'll gladly take one more win, which could be the difference between HCA, or not, in the West, over two all stars.

I agree. If CJ averages 21-22 ppg and Klay averages 12-14 ppg, both of which is quite possible, CJ is in.

Yep. If we're on a 55+ win pace (all season, not just after X-Mas) in January, it'll be hard not to consider CJ too. Though I have a feeling with Evan Turner as the steam valve on offense, both CJ and Dame will have slightly more relaxed stats (or, they'll have insanely high stats because they're wide open more... I haven't decided yet).

Each person can vote every day. And I think last year one of the ways, you could vote every hour. If we ALL made a pact to do this and try to get as many others as we know to also do this, maybe we can actually see a push in their votes.
I know I tried to keep up last year, and it isn't the easiest thing to do when life is busy.
Maybe we need a sticky thread as a reminder where everyone who voted posts that they voted every day. Friendly reminder for the rest of the members to vote and keeps those of us voting, ON TOP of our votes.

Not sure I understand the second part of your question.

Fwiw, I would bet my house that both Yi and Lin get more votes than Dame this year. Hell, as a backup last year in Charlotte, Lin ended up with 196k votes. Dame ended up with 158k. Nearly 40k more votes then, and now he's playing in the largest market and will be the definite starter.

I don't think it's racist to think that fans from a particular country may be nationalistic, ethnocentric, chauvinistic, or even consider it patriotic to support a player from their own country.

As far as voting based on merit, this is the NBA All Star Game we're talking about. I'd venture the majority of fans vote for players from their favorite team, or their home country, regardless of merit. Kobe Fucking Bryant was on the all star team last season, for crying out loud.

The only way CJ makes it is if Dame does not. Two Portland guards will not be chosen by the coaches in the West.

We'll trade CJ to the Lakers so he makes it in easily.

If the NBA insists on keeping the fan voting system, it should weight the votes by the population of the country they originate from. Chinese votes would count as roughly a third of a US vote. Some people would get around it with IP trickery, but it would be a lot better than it is now.

I know it's not impossibe to tip the scales. KC Royals fans flooded the 2015 All Star ballot to get their players on. I would think the problem is their are so much more people voting in this event. It would be hard to dent the Dub Nation band wagoner's or quasi-Laker fan boys. But if it helps gets Dame or CJ on the team it's worth it!

I'm still not convinced they count the Chinese vote straight up 1 Chinese vote = 1 vote. If they did, there is no way Jeremy Lin doesn't lead the NBA in All-Star voting. They let the Yao votes through because he was the main bridge for the NBA to China.
