The comparisons have never been more obvious.

Shorter, not as good a passer, but otherwise the exact same player. After Crawford turned 29, he was never a starter ever again. Think the Knicks wished they'd traded him when he was a few years younger?

Much like Crawford, CJ will have a role in the league for another decade. But not as a starter on a good team. You sub him in early in the first quarter, and if he's hot you roll with him, and if he's not you move on to the next option.

We can't do that with CJ now that he's been a starter for so long. So you have to trade him somewhere where he'll be forced to accept that role. The problem we have is that while there will be options, the trade returns on a 28 year old Crawford who is owed $53m over the next two years aren't going to be fantastic.

Crawford, age 38, is getting around $29M for this season and the next, combined. Oh I see. You're calling McCollum a 28-year-old Crawford.

I don't see a lot of similarities: McCollum has dribbling; Crawford had height and playmaking.

Crawford started at PG for much of a season when Felton failed. McCollum would not have the talent to do that.

Crawford didn't make big bucks until his 17th season, age 36, $13M/year, only 2 years ago. McCollum got superstar pay in his 5th year, age 26, $24M/year.

You mean Crawford didn't have dribbling? Coz he is well know for one of the best crossovers out there. And I cannot find these numbers about this season and the next. I think he is on minimum wage right now.

Atlanta is paying off his buyout. Sure, Crawford's a good dribbler, but McCollum's better. Lower to the ground. Stumpy.

pretty easy to shit on CJ when he is in a slump and having his worst year as a starter. If want to compare the two career wise CJ kills him in everything, or we can just do from the same age and its still an insult to compare Crawford to CJ. A much better comparison for how careers have gone so far is Micheal Redd from the bucks. I'm not sure were this narrative that CJ is not a starter in this league is coming from but its very wrong.

michael redd is one of the best 3pt shooters in the history of the league. Also, wasn’t he mainly a spot up shooter (Correct me if I’m wron)? CJ’s game is much more like Crawford’s than Redd’s imo

and CJ shoots better then Redd from 3. Redd had two insane seasons from 3 off the bench then never elipsed 40% from 3 again. I don't recall Redd just being a shooter, I remember him as a player who attacked the basket and took a fair amount of long 2ps and handled the ball a lot.

oh for chrissakes, there it is again. "CJ is in a slump" is this place's version of bop-a-mole. It's been debunked a dozen times but it keeps coming back

* how is his shooting in a slump? TS% = 2014-15 .534 2015-16 .544 2016-17 .585 2017-18 .536 2018-19 .538.....he's right at his norms in shooting efficiency. Yeah, his 3ptFG% is down, but his 2ptFG% is a career high

* how is his playmaking a slump? assists/36 =2015-16 4.4 2016-17 3.7 2017-18 3.3 2018-19 2.8 .....that's not s slump, that's a 4 year trend-line of increasing selfishness

it's entirely possible the rest of the NBA has wised-up on how to play CJ and he just doesn't have the depth of skills to elevate his game

A much better comparison for how careers have gone so far is Micheal Redd from the bucks. I'm not sure were this narrative that CJ is not a starter in this league is coming from but its very wrong.

* Redd had 4 seasons of 20 or above in PER; CJ has had none
* Redd had 6 seasons with a TS% above 55%; CJ has had 1
* Redd had 9 seasons with a FT rate above .250. CJ has had none
* Redd's career winshare/48 mark is .134; CJ's best season was .131

I do agree they are kind of similar players. Neither possess the court vision to be good passers and both have black-hole traits. And both were/are defensive liabilities. Redd was better though

whooopee, another bash McCollum thread.

The saga of CJ: Stumpy. Slumpy. Kinda dumpy. Often grumpy. The ladies call him "humpy." Come up with 2 more, and he can be his own 7 dwarves.

Yeah, I'm desperate to come up with something humerous. The alternative is to roam the streets setting things on fire.

I request that either wizenheimer or CupWizier change their screen name. I get so confused as to which one of you guys I agree with and which one is the tool. ;)
Isn't it possible that you can occasionally agree with either one, and that both are tools?

I wonder whether I'll recognize the Milwaukee head coaches who made Redd. Hmm. Years 1-3, George Karl. Years 4-5, Terry Porter. Years 6-7, Terry Stotts. Years 7-8, Larry Krystkowiak. Yeah, I remember him! What happened to Larry Krystkowiak?

lol. of course I am the good guy. I actually like the Blazers. :bgrin:

There is a place in this league for instant offense type players. Shoot first, second and third as an option. I bet CJ hopes he can pay in the league almost 20 years. And to the cat above that said Jamal had no handles.......MOTHERFUCKER PLEASE! He has one of the deadliest crossovers in the history of the league.

cough cough! Are mods allowed to make personal insults? Hell I couldn't even call someone clueless when they obviously were. I demand a court hearing. :devilwink:

Crawford was master of the crossover, and Felton was a master of the doublecross. One of the more interesting backcourts in Blazer history.

I too think CJ would probably set the record for 6 man of the year awards if he accepted it...but he'll never win an award as a starting 2 guard in the west...the east he probably would.

My fear is that CJ becomes Kevin Martin ...purely a volume shooter

Whether it's an insult depends on the tool. He could be comparing your wit to a razor sharp blade! :devilwink:

I've been searching on and off all day on bball ref and nba.com to no avail. Does anyone know where we can find CJ's stats as starting PG?

He has looked absolutely dominant in some of the games I remember when Dame was out. Like @ OKC last year or a MIN/SAC game. I'm scared that he'll be another Oladipo.
