Trade CJ McCollum to New Orleans

I look at this draft as one guy really above the others, then three or four guys that are that next tier that have the capabilities to be major difference-makers if they reach their ceiling, and then there are about eight guys that I consider pretty close and after that it's an absolute crapshoot.

Like, I look at Bennedict Mathurin and I think he COULD be something like Khris Middleton, but will he be that good? Probably not.

I like that Dragan guy you posted. Eastern European guys very often have a lot of grit which is sort of an "intangible". I also like Banchero obviously and then Keegan, Patrick Baldwin, and Jalen Duren (edit to add Jovic whoops!). Those guys all look to have the tools. Skills can be taught, physical gifts cannot. I should add I'm ignoring guys under 6'7". Since the combine hasn't happened if some of these 6'6" guys have insane 7'4" wingspans or something maybe I would reconsider.

And I'm not a Chet believer. I wouldn't take that gamble. However, if he can put it all together, he could be really good.

Yeah.

And then my next group is Paolo, Ivey, Sharpe and Chet, presuming Sharpe enters the draft.
You have Sharpe that high? Huh. Again I haven't been looking much at wings. I've been concentrating on guys who can conceivably play PF.

Yeah, I like Sharpe. I think his analog is Brandon Roy, 6-6 wing with range and midrange game and a very smooth delivery on his shot.

Again, I don't think he ends up that good, but you put a guy who just can shoot like that with a couple of other players that demand defensive attention and they can be absolutely deadly just by having that one skill -- shot-making.

Yeah.

Yeah I'm of the same mindset as you then but the guys that do this for a living are all over the place with their draft boards this year. There is no consensus number one and there are no consensus tiers. I would all but guarantee this draft has NBA front offices in similar situations. I'm sure a small majority have their draft boards pretty similar but I bet 40% of them are all over the place. Guys like Jovic, Griffin, Mathurin and Davis have been mentioned as top 4 picks. Maybe the tourney and combine will help straighten some shit out but I kind of doubt it. I know from listening to podcasts that supposedly have sources, that there are GMs around the league that still have Paolo or Chet as their number one pick. It should be very interesting and I hope the Pelicans pick makes it so we're right there in the mix.

Thank you for that caveat

Yeah, I have him on my short list! I completely agree and if he's there with the Pel's pick if there isn't a good trade available I'm drafting him.

On the Pels BR board they are all talking about how they ripped off PDX with CJ, when I pointed out empty stats don’t equal wins nothing but crickets.

Allow us to compare records since the trades good sirs and the quality of opponents!

Boy I wish we had a ruthless trader as a GM and/or that Cronin demonstrates he can be that. Nothing better than a draft where there is confusion to make great drafts and great trades.

After this season CJ will open a Jazz Club.
Trojan Horse, open from 4 till 15.
Next season Zion comes back and NO meets Blazers in the finals.

Yeah shit could get really wacky if we have the Pelicans pick and all of our future firsts. This could be like the Pritchslap draft of 2006. The only difference being that we already have a ton of talent to be a foundation that we add whatever we get out of what could be a volatile draft night to.

I despise Luca. Everything about him screams spoiled pudgy chode. I can't stand him. At least Dirk was all class. This guy is a giant man baby.

Just for you, I will take one for the team and I will bone his mom just to put him in his place.

He probably will be around for one if not both Blazer picks. He's good and I think will be a rotation player relatively quickly wherever he lands. Bit of a poor man's Obi Toppin. I'm not sure there's a ton or room for him to get a lot better. He's like a high-floor, low-ceiling player. If you want a consistent rotation player who probably is your first forward off the bench on a good team longterm, I think he's your guy. If you're looking for a player who can be the focal point from time to time on a good team, if you're looking for a home-run, special player, he's probably not that.

CJ is in the role that he needed to be in. I don't know if it will work out, but he's showing that he can be the lead guy.
Now CJ has an elite defender in Herb Jones in the backcourt with him. Will be interesting to see if he/NOLA can improve his defensive abilities.

Okay. I’ll take your word for it. :smiley-canttouchthi

However, I do remember people saying the same things about John Collins as he kept falling further down in the draft.

Hmm, not so sure about that. People were pretty set on him being a very capable scorer, but his lack of defense was a big concern. I don't see that anything has changed there. He's basically what most people predicted.

So he’s basically played up to his 19th pick?

No. He’s exceeded what people thought he would do in the league. If that draft was re-done he’d be a borderline top 5 pick

Bam, DM, Tatum, Fox, Lonzo, Jarrett, OG, Kuz White, Hart Brooks and maybe Isaac ahead of Collins if done now. So I guess he moves up to 12th?

I could probably find a few more to draft ahead of him. I honestly don't see what separates him from Kyle Kuzma as a player, aside from continuity and touches.

I think you guys are selling Collins short. From that 2017 draft class, he ranks:

5th in points
3rd in rebounds
6th in FG%
6th in 3ptFG%
4th in points/game
2nd in rebounds/game
4th in winshares
6th in winshares/48
6th in BPM
5th in VORP

8th in games
7th in minutes

I only see 4 players I would definitely rank ahead of him. There could be valid debate about 3 or 4 more
