I just think.... why not..... give the guy his chance. Put the ball in his hands and let him show what he can do.

Especially with Ingram able to score as a forward, and maybe someday that duo with Zion.

When the Blazers had Aminu and Harkless as forwards yeah CJ needs some more offense with him in the backcourt. But they have plenty of offense with those two, and Jonas is solid as well.

Its funny, but I think a great SG for the Pelicans to pair with CJ in the backcourt is Hart.

Bobby Marks (on the Lowe post) said the Pels waived all physicals for CJ, and this allowed us to move NAW immediately. He said it's stunning for a team to do this for a 30 yr old coming off a serious injury with 60+ mil left.

He thinks Cronin could have made this a condition of the deal.
That was an injury riddled trade as Didi just has meniscus knee surgery and could be out all or most if the rest of the year.

CJ with 14/10/2 in the FIRST half tonight. Nice bounceback from him, but they're down 6 to the Spurs

I wish for all of the individual success in the world for CJ this season and a lot of losses, including in the draft lottery. Starting next season I can root for him to play well and win because that won't really hurt us, unless of course it's when they're playing us.

If we get their pick this seems like an easy Blazers win in that trade, especially if that pick is sent for Grant or someone like that.

Hart/Grant > CJ

so, now that the dust has settled, and the three team trade of CJ is done, we can look at it in total

in summary, it was:

CJ + Nance + Snell

for

Hart + Ingles + Louzada + Hughes + the potential Pels 2022 lottery pick (and a 2025 1st if not) + three 2nd round picks + 50M in cap relief over the next season and a half

obviously, the gauge of this trade will in large part pivot on if the Blazers get a lottery pick from the Pels this season. But in total, this looks like a fairly decent trade for Portland

the Clippers trade on the other hand.....

Cj deserves more respect than most players in the league but this is looking to be looking like a perfect example of addition by subtraction.
Hart, though not the elite and diverse of a scorer as CJ, brings the grit on the defensive end, we have needed.
Dame/Ant/Hart is better than any three guard lineup we had prior.
I could see us talking Ant into a decent 15-20 mill contract and become iur 6th man of the year.
Start Hart next to Dame.

Dame/Ant/smith jr
Hart/maclemore/eleby
Nas/Hughes?
Randle? Banchero? Grant?/ Winslow?
Nurk/Watford/??

is that enough with our picks and cap to fill in adequately to be a playoff team next year and contenders the following??
Id say if not, its not far off.
Draft night will likely decide much of this.

Pelicans fans were really excited to get CJ. I mean sure they have been garbage for years, so to get a B-Star like CJ must be really exciting for them. I wonder how they feel now

36 points and 12 rebounds last night and the Pels still lost...to the Spurs

There are a lot of Pelicans fans complaining that between Graham and McCollum, they don't have any defense in the backcourt.

That sounds eerily familiar....
Yeah, they have to commit to CJ at the point and play a defensive minded SG next to him but they can learn that the hard way or make a conscious decision to deny that reality forever like we did.

That’s what I have been trying to say! And haha at the dude who said I was crazy for thinking that CJ could put up similar numbers as Harden.
He threw a supreme dime to Snell under the hoop in the game tonight. CJ is the best player, at least on offense, for the Pelicans.
In tonight's game against the tough grizzly defense Brandon Ingram looks kind of clueless. He's three for 10 for six points. CJ on the other hand is six for 12 for 14 points slicing and dicing as usual.

Draft order and ping-pong balls are almost more important, but yes draft night will be key for sure especially if we use the TPE and/or Bledsoe in big trades and we get the Pels pick. Wouldn't it be amazing if we ended up with the #1 and #5 this year? That would be absolutely bonkers. Jabari Smith and then I'd have to think long and hard about whether I'd trade the #5 plus whatever for someone like a disgruntled Ayton (is that even possible cap and salary guys?) or another elite potential center maybe go nuts and try and draft one like that Dragan Bender guy after a trade down trade. The possibilities if we had two top 10 picks are endless. We could then flip Nurkic for someone in an S&T as I don't see him being OK backing up another center. Maybe try and sign Boucher for PF/C with D and range? Man, wouldn't that be something?

...I wonder if the Pelicans will ever have a winning record with MeJ :dunno:
