CJ Suspended

I fucking love it. I love that C.J. has an attitude. I loved it last year when he destroyed Chandler Parsons on Twitter and I love him thumbing his nose at the league over this.

Sure, he broken the rule, but by calling attention to the inconsistency of it's application and poking fun at the severity of the penalty, maybe it will lead to a future change to the rule. Something like a fine and a warning for a first time offender who doesn't actually enter the fray, saving the automatic suspension for repeat offenders and players who actually participate in the altercation.

Not even if Olshey uses that 15th roster spot to sign Thomas Robinson?

Thomas Robinson is under contract with one of the better teams in Europe, but if Neil can bring a really good player for the 15th spot I would reconsider my stance

Don't give up on your dream so easily. TRob probably has a buy out clause in his contract.

Define "really good player". Is that simply someone better than Briscoe, or someone who is actually really good?

He knew the rules and be broke them. It's not like he only took one step onto the court. It's one game. Get over it.

Nothing like what CJ did
But you keep arguing that a rule is a rule. You're about as consistent in your posts as the refs/league is at enforcing their rules.
Actually, I take that back - you're incredibly consistent in playing your Devil's Advocate role.

CJ left the bench. George took a half step and stopped. Not sure he made it to the floor.

He came out two steps onto the court, which you can see clearly at the end of the video at this link:

“The rule is designed to punish players for leaving "the immediate vicinity of the bench" in the event of altercations. It's meant to prevent players from rushing off the bench to fight.”

That quote is from the same article. While I don’t think anyone would argue CJ intended to get into a fight, he definitely left the immediate vicinity of the bench. The league is wise to remind players at the start of the season that it’s serious about this rule. Sucks that it’s CJ who takes the hit, but he screwed up.

I understand why the NBA suspended CJ. I just hope the NBA enforces this rule everytime this season and not just when its a blazer.

Nope, just us. Also, Portland will be the only team that gets called for illegal defense this year. Man, it sucks to be us.

I'm sure Steven Adams and Kenny Mauer would also appreciate a more consistent application of the no kicking an opposing player in the nuts and no bloodying an official rules.

Looked like way more than 2 steps. He was basically under the basket.

I'll pretend thats not sarcasm

Denny, that new programmer you hired has vastly improved the Bot's algorithm. It's actually starting to occasionally make sense.

Shows how you are BNM. It's the same algorithm. More data. Better response. That's the beauty of machine learning.

More data perhaps, but the pattern hasn't changed. Thomas Robinson still sucks at the same things he's always sucked at. The new data does not expand on the previous data, it just reinforces the previous conclusion.

Sure. But the Bot now has enough data to answer properly.

Question: What does the rule actually say? Suspended for the next game or suspended for the next regular season game?

I have a feeling that at this point best case scenario is now that the league has been called out for inconsistency that there will be true zero tolerance going forward. So maybe CJ has bettered the league in this way for the long run. Next time it happens with a legit player will be interesting.

I can see why it’s annoying he got suspended for a reg season game for a preseason infraction. But I also think preseason suspensions don’t have any impact or result in any hardship for anyone. There are teams who wish their starters would be officially unable to play in the preseason.
