Funny!

Why is everyone in such a hurry? It's not like he is going to break the rotation in the next month anyway. Hurry so he can sit on the bench in uniform!!!

We were all calm and patient playing in a field with dandelions until Marc Spears ran over and yelled at everyone “news coming soon”

Come on....I was expecting 28 minutes off the bench with 16 points, 3 rebounds 4 assists and a steal. No?

:matrix:

Right now I hand CJ all of Mo's minutes, or at least half.

Rookies are always the most exciting player to see, they are the most unknown player thus difficult to predict. They have the greatest chance of exceeding expectations and the greatest chance of falling well short.

You're right! That rookie could be anything. Even a boat!

No word on CT scan results for CJ McCollum ... but he's going through a pregame shooting workout right now. Pretty sure it's his 1st of year

Terry Stotts said CJ McCollum had already been doing some shooting, so his pregame today wasn't new. No update on his status after CT scan.

Trail Blazers G CJ McCollum (left foot fracture) has been cleared for 3-on-3 play. No timetable set for his return.

Take it slow
As much as I want to see him play, I very much want them to take it slow with him. What would be awesome is if they just have him practice with the team for the rest of the season, and then unleash him in the Playoffs as a "secret weapon". Get his game fine-tuned on the practice floor where nobody can scout him so he's a surprise and teams don't know how to play him. I think that'd make for a good story - especially if we were able to take this team all the way.

That would be awesome and ridiculous!

well, unless he fucks up chemistry. Bring him in slowly in garbage time unless the blazers start to slide a bit.

Fun idea but don’t think it would work at all. CJ needs to play with teammates in games to develop chemistry with them. The advantage of other teams not scouting him would be far less than that.

With Aldridge, Lillard, Batum, and our other players in the rotation opposing teams will spend very little time preparing for CJ regardless.

great Christmas present for the blazers bench. good news and another step in the right direction

I have no idea what to expect from CJ, especially coming off injury and having never played at NBA speeds before.

I expect a few good shots, then a bunch of misses sprinkled with makes, some turnovers, and some good ball-handling. I expect him to play tight and nervous, then loose, then too loose, then eventually more comfortable.

...in short, it'll take time, but he'll get a little time soon. I bet he'll be pretty good; Olshey's good at spotting guard talent.

Great news! I thought when he was cleared for 3vs3 this shouldn't be long behind. Pretty similar activities.

I wonder if we will send him down to the DLeague? Seems like a good idea to get him some time in actual meaningless games so he can get his rhythm. We are playing so well I think him working through bonehead plays with the real team would be bad for his development.

That's an interesting idea! I think the positives outweigh the negatives. However, I think it's unlikely since they'll want to be able to run him through practices with his actual teammates. Given the NBA schedule it's tough to have a player play in the D-League and then rejoin the team for practices.
But personally I think I'd have him practice with the team for the next ~3 weeks, then a week or two in the D-League, then another few days of practice with the team, then get him in the game.

He has been billed by some as the savior of the bench, so hopefully people don't turn on him if he has a slow start. I think the guy is extremely talented, but he hasn't played since... September? It's going to take him a little bit before he gets into shape and comfortable on a court.

he only played/practiced with the team for about a week of Training Camp before the foot broke. He's been doing 3-on-3 work for a week or so, and there are a few practice days in the next week or so.

I'd love to see him earn minutes that Will and Crabbe haven't. I'd like to think he'd be available for MIA on the 28th for spurts, but that's probably overly optimistic
