It's not a pressing matter. We have until August 31 to waive him and use the stretch provision to spread out his remaining salary over the next five seasons.
Who knows, maybe he plays his way onto the team, or maybe his current contract can be used for salary matching purposes in a potential trade. Technically, his salary can't be aggregated with another outgoing player in a single trade until two months after the Crabbe trade, but if the salaries work, it could be handled as two separate transactions.
Odds are, he'll be waived and stretched by the 31st, but no need to do it any sooner than necessary.

So we can't trade him for another player, but we can say trade him for a pick, then trade the same team a pick for a player?
Its interesting we haven't waived him yet, though we most likely will.
