If they want to trade him, then why wait for him to do that? Just trade himHow it diminish his value if only he and they know about it?

The fans who don't know about the demand because it's just between the two of them?Maybe they need a good reason to give to the fans.

I think they were busy offering him a max contract and saying he's absolutely the number one priority. If they want to trade him, then why wait for him to do that? Just trade him
To be clear, I started this thread because I fear Aldridge won't stay with the Blazers, not because I don't think he deserves a hefty max contract. But if we get one year and then lose LMA for nothing it will kill the blazers chances for years to come. But if we can swap LMA for wiggins and Monroe, or something similar, then a Lillard led team would still stand a chance at winning year over year.

So signing LA to a max at his age will kill the Blazers and losing LA will kill the Blazers.
Where is papag when you need him . . .

It's better to get something than nothing. There is a risk they lose him next year no matter how well they peform this next season.
Also killed by the BlazersSo signing LA to a max at his age will kill the Blazers and losing LA will kill the Blazers.

OK, now THAT'S bananas. (cue mags)I thought of something today. I'll forewarn you, it's ridiculous, nonetheless it did come to mind. I wonder if the Blazers quiet free agent period is their way to try to get LA to demand a trade.
Cleveland is in the running for Lebron, but scuttlebutt is lebron wants another real star on the team before he commits. Blazers aren't sure if they will be able to resign Aldridge next summer. So the Cavs could trade Wiggins, Zeller and Dion for Aldridge (I haven't done the figures yet, but there are enough small contracts available to make it work) and then the Cavs could have a big three of Kyrie, Aldridge and LeBron for their big three, with plenty of other tidbits. Asking for all three of those players might sound like a lot, especially considering Wiggins is expected to be a star, but thats a pretty small price to pay for being able to lure the best player in the NBA.
Blazers on the other hand would take a step back, but would have a bunch of good parts, young parts, on great contracts, to move ahead.
Lillard, Wiggins, Waiters, Zeller, Batum, Wes, Rolo ....... should allow for some real maneuverability by Olshey to put together a damned good team with a high upside.
Two different opinions, just because they both exist doesn't mean the same people believe both.So signing LA to a max at his age will kill the Blazers and losing LA will kill the Blazers.

Me, if LMA signed max and stayed a Blazer I'd be happy. But I fear he will leave instead, and that atom bomb our future.
..take that fear, and put it towards rooting for the Blazers.
Because if they live up to their potential, Aldridge won't be going anywhere.
If the Blazers lose LA, won't that give them a lot of salary cap space to spend on someone else?
Because the Blazers have been so successful luring free agents in the past?
Playing with Luke Babbit and Raymond Felton with Jared Jeffries as you backup center....yup, LA asked for upgrades..he got them, he's happy and given that it is pure paranoiaYou do realize this isn't just paranoia? Aldridge already asked to be traded once. And the Blazers don't have a bunch of ways to improve and keep this team improving. We had no picks, we have no cap room, we don't have a glut of tradable assets. I see no reason to believe the Blazers do better next season then they did last year after the super hot start. And if the Blazers win 45-50 games and get knocked out in round one, we will almost certainly lose LMA. That's a pretty tough gamble to wager our best player we will improve with limited input. But regardless the moment the Blazers step on the court, no matter the makeup, I'm rooting hard and enjoying every victory. Advocating one move doesn't require giving up ones fandom.

The past is just what it says it is and I never understood what it has to do with the current state of Portland basketball.
I love PDX, but we are a small market team, a high tax team, have a small African American population, are a rainy state especially during the season, aren't a nightlife town, and all those reasons make luring free agents difficult, no matter how historic those problems are.

Doesn't Portland have more strip clubs per capita than any other big city? That sounds like some decent nightlife to me.
