Clingan has been the biggest disappointment in these first 2 playoffs games.
I didn't expect him to knocking down threes like Brook Lopez because it's something that he's working on and in the playoffs the ball weight more. And of course I didn't expect him to cover ground on defense like Evan Mobley.

But what should have been his strengths right now are his weakness.

He doesn't set good screens
He doesn't take contested rebounds
He doesn't take offensive rebounds
He doesn't block shots
He doesn't take advantage of smaller defenders

We are lucky to have RWIII as backup center because if it was for Clingan we wouldn't be 1-1 on the series.

He's getting outplayed by Kornet, the Spurs backup center. It's like seeing shades of Beno Udrih outplaying Lillard in the playoffs. What crazy is that he doesn't even box him out on rebounds. He looks slow and goofy. I don't know if he's feeling too much pressure or what.

But right now he's looking bad, really bad.

He hasn't been at his best, but he may just be exhausted. Fortunately him playing more minutes in the season means that Rob W. is fresh as a daisy for the playoffs and is pretty much our MVP so far.

it's fucking stupid that Clingan is 1-9 on three's. That means that he's been spending way too much time out around the 3 point line instead of near the rim. That's not on Clingan; that on the coaching staff. He's not a stretch-5; not close. And for Splitter to try and make him one, especially in his first playoffs, is malpractice. Clingan needs good coaching but from my perspective, he's not getting it

as for Clingan being the "biggest underperformer"...that's stupid unless you're gauging by height

* Jrue has been great at running the offense; 10 assists.game vs 3 turnovers. But he's shooting 31% on FG's and 23% on three's
* Grant has averaged 5 points on 7 shots and doesn't have an assist. He's at 21% on FG's
* Sharpe averaged 20.8 points during the season but 9.5 in the playoffs. 39% on FG's and 14% on three's
* Thybulle has 3 points in 2 games. He did contest Vassell's three well at the end of the game

so no, Clingan is not the biggest underperformer. Making a thread just to say that seems like bile

Been a bit disappointed but he was showing signs of hitting the minutes wall like a month ago. If you’re surprised and shocked now you haven’t really been paying attention. If he is championship material like his pedigree says, he’ll come back stronger next season.

He's been getting mauled in the paint withhout getting to the line. Clingan just can't jump over a credit card, he's like ZBo that way. He does stay out of foul trouble amazingly well for a center

yeah, good point...that's notable in my view. I've seen at least 5 replays where he clearly gets fouled, quite hard in fact, and either looses the ball or misses a shot because of the contact. Wemby would have drawn a whistle every time and the broadcasters would say Wemby got mugged

He needs to come back strong on Friday. Any exhaustion is mental and he needs to overcome that.

There are levels of disappointment.

Right now, Grant is in the wheel house of "disappointmentville", and Tou and DC are knocking on the door loudly.

Disappointment based on the role on the team, as a potential core piece.

I expect nothing from Jerami Grant, I just expect him to get traded ASAP.
I expect nothing from Thybulle on an expiring contract.
I expected more from Sharpe of course, but he's coming off an injury.

Clingan has no excuses, he's healthy and he was playing good basketball to end the regular season. Playoffs are just different.

I've always wondered why some fans always seem to have to have a scapegoat.
He seems to be playing with a banged up hand. He is taking too many 3s in my estimation and needs to stick with 3 pt attempts only from the extended top of key.

It's frustrating that Clingan hasn't played as well as we know he is able to play in the playoffs. He is taking a beating inside by opponents. I do wonder if the matchup against a fast paced team like the Spurs also plays a part in it?

The coaches are terribly to blame for him sitting outside the arc like a shooting guard. If he sets a screen he needs to roll to the rim. He should be inside already, with Toumani settings screens up top. That way he can stay there.

We can't get offensive rebounds if Clingan isn't in there to get them. Also, if guys want to come to the basket, he can box out Wemby to one side and open up space.

Clingan is being utilized totally wrong. Did he stay outside the arc in college? Did he dominate inside? It's pretty obvious how to adjust. I don't understand why the coaches aren't seeing it.

I don't if there is something we can do about his defense on the perimeter. I know he doesn't want to come too far out because he doesn't want the opponent gunning past him. It's better than allowing an open three though. Can't have guys like Vassell wide open. I think Clingan needs to stay by the paint and have other guys switch, or just go all the way up to the arc to defend and have other guys help inside to guard the basket if the player gets passed.

You expect nothing from Grant, and you expect someone to trade for him ASAP? (@35 mil per) I am not sure I see your logic.
He came up huge against the Suns after being out. We desperately need him against the Spurs, too.

Thybulle shot the 3-ball much better at home than on the road. Let's hope that continues.

The player I am most disappointed in is Jerami Grant. $30+ million a year....for what? I know he saved us against the Suns to help us to the playoffs, but his play is inexcusable. Missing shot after shot, going for the foul instead of the shot and throwing up wacky ass shots that go nowhere near the basket. Most of the time he doesn't get the calls and just turns the ball over, then commits stupid fouls. He is such a negative asset for this team. He played better before he got paid.

I hope we can trade him, but he's a negative asset. No one wants to pay him that money for what he is putting out. Dude has packed it in.

I expect him to hit threes. Vit too. Are two best three point shooters and they can't hit the broadside of a barn.

Sharpe is also young. I think the Blazers are going to trade him this summer.

He needs to learn how to play through the contact and not lose the ball.

So, let me get this right, we are disappointed in a 22 y/o, 2nd year player that has his first 2 playoffs games - where he does not have a physical advantage he usually sees during the games?

Sometimes, patience is the right way to go...

When you get hacked like he did there's no playing through it. they were pulling his arms down. What I saw was brutal. He was clearly frustrated with it and it carried on all game. I think it was way over the top and not Clingan's fault by any stretch.

If he shoots poorly in the next 2 games, you will be right. If he bounces back and shoots well, you will be wrong.
Either could happen

But isn't this also a problem with coaching? They need to ignore how much he is getting paid and tell him that he sits in the corners and takes threes. He shoots 43% from the right corner. Only if clock is under 5 seconds and he defender comes out strong to the corner will he have permission to drive. He should never dribble unless clock under 5 seconds.

Blazers win their first playoff game in years and this is the post you want to make????

Some people just love to live in negativity….

If this were 77’, days after the chip, this thread would be titled, Herb Williams needs to be traded… or some complete bs like that….
