OT Clips worried DJ could bolt

Jordan has a better DRPM than Rolo, better RPM, higher WAR, WAY better DRB%, ORB%, higher block%, better, OWS, DWS, and total Win Shares, a higher WSper48, higher DBPM, BPM, VORP, higher STL%, PER, higher ORTG, lower DRTG. What exactly says Rolo is better?

Jordan is a significantly better player "advanced stats" wise that Lopez (either Lopez twin for that matter). Also look at TRB%, VORP, and TS%.

Fair enough. Jordan certainly had his best year and Lopez underperformed. However, Jordan is far from the elite defender he's supposed to be and that's what he's good at. His offense has been totally dependent on playing next to Chris Paul and Blake Griffin, the best passers at their respective positions in the league.
 
You can use all the advanced stats you want, and I'm not saying that DJ is definitively better than RoLo on the defensive side of the ball, but at worst it is even and DeAndre would add much much more versatility to our team both offensively and defensively that he is a much better fit than RoLo is here.

The half-court alley oop is an art that CP3 and Andre have mastered but DJ is so freakishly athletic that both Batum and Dame just have to throw it in the general vicinity of the basket for him to dunk it. This isn't even factoring in the crowd factor and how alley-oops to Jordan would ignite the Moda, and you can't argue that the Blazers are not a completely different team when the Moda Center is on its feet.
 
Here's what I will concede about Jordan:
1. He's a phenomenal athlete.
2. He's a phenomenal rebounder.

But here are some more truths:
1. The Clippers were mediocre on defense.
2. They were actually better on defense when Jordan was off the floor.
3. Jordan may be one of the worst free throw shooters in history, a fact which might skew his offensive rating, because he gets fouled intentionally so often that it looks like he's creating offense when in fact he's preventing his team creating better offense.
4. He will demand a far bigger contract than RoLo.

Here are some things that I BELIEVE to be true:
1. Jordan was not worth his last contract and definitely will not be worth his next one.
2. RoLo is a LOT more valuable than he appears, whereas Jordan is a lot less valuable than he appears because of the huge gulf in flashiness in their games.
3. RoLo's basketball IQ is through the roof higher than Jordan's.
 
Couple more facts:
The Blazers had a better defensive FG% than the Clippers.
The Clippers were actually outrebounded as a team (both in the regular season and in the playoffs). As is well-known, our team rebounding went way up when we replaced the supposedly better rebounder JJ Hickson with RoLo. I have a feeling that Jordan is a rebounder like Hickson not a rebounder like RoLo.

Clippers TRB% dropped over 7 points when Jordan went to the bench. Their ORB% went down by over 12. When we had Hickson, our TRB% went up when he went to the bench. Obviously some of that has to do with who is behind him. But they certainly didn't get better without him out there, like we did with Hickson.

So because someone gets more rebounds that makes his team a worse rebounding team? Right

If you think about it for two seconds, it's obviously possible. If he tends to takes the rebound away from another player on his own team and conversely isn't boxing out his guy. The reason we're better off with RoLo is because he focuses more on preventing the other team getting the rebound than on padding his own stats.

so based on your logic, since he gets 15 rebounds a game he must only care about padding stats and must never box out. That's silly
 
Rasta, the Blazers are a better rebounding team because everyone else on the team is better at rebounding than the Clips...
 
Dames, Nic, and LA are all good rebounders for their position.. Kaman would get 10+ a game if he started. CJ isn't bad..

Clippers have a bunch of average to below average reboundes... But I guess every time they give up an offensive rebound its due to the one dude that can actually rebound? Makes no sense.
 
What people also don't seem to get is that this Hack-A-Jordan is ONLY A LIABILITY if you do not have a competent back-up center. That is where Doc shit the bed. Hawes was benched for much of the season because his play was horrid, and when the HAJ was used in the playoffs he was forced to play him. In reality, this only becomes a problem in the playoffs, and its only a problem if you dont have someone behind him. If the Blazers are up 15 on the Clips in the playoffs, and had Jordan, you just don't play him from whenever they start fouling until the 2:00 minute mark, Meyers is more than competent to handle a 4-6 minute stretch. During the regular season it doesn't even matter. The free throws and this HAJ thing has been blown WAYYYYYY out of proportion because it's something for ESPN to talk about and bring up every 10 minutes. That is why it will be talked about, but not changed this summer. It's part of the game.

If you want to look at advanced stats, what about Lillard and his competence with the PnR? He is one of the better PnR PG's in the league...can you imagine how deadly that becomes if he has the option to run it with either LA (a top shooting big man) or Jordan (an absolute beast going to the hoop)? Throw in Wesley, CJ, Batum, or whatever shooters we have around them? Our offense becomes even deadlier, we lose very little defensively from RoLo to Jordan, and rebounding is at worst even (depending on what side of the advanced metrics you take).

@Rastapopoulos is DeAndre a 5 year/120M player? No. But not very many people are, and with the cap going up and the NBA continuing to grow, the cap and its restraints are going to be thrown out the window very quickly these next couple years. With the potential legalization of sports betting on these major sports coming on the horizon, that is expected to bring potentially another $10M to the cap figures from what I've seen thrown around. Look at what Olshey said this offseason...money isn't an issue. If DeAndre wants a max offer to come here, that is what he will get and I don't think Paul will have ANY qualms about giving it to him.
 
So... some of you people would actually be happy to see the Blazers offer DeAndre Jordan a max contract?

You do realize that this would almost certainly only be possible if we lost Aldridge, right?

But even if not... wow. The salary cap better double, is all I'm saying.

He does have that vibe about him.

As for Jordan (since he's the subject of the thread), I wouldn't mind him being on the team but I think the cost of getting him (in addition to my attempts to live in the real world) makes it difficult to see it.
 
Re: Chris Paul. Barkley once said of Isiah Thomas that "he would cut your nuts off to win". I think Paul's the same way. Apparently the friction with Jordan was because Paul got on Jordan for not working harder to improve his free throwing. Wow, what an asshole.

It's also true that LeBron James listed his three best friends in the league (none on his team, by the way) and one of them was Paul. But then, they've never been on the same team, I guess.

Finally: Doc successfully managed Rajon "Aspie" Rondo for what, 5? 6? seasons. NOBODY grates on his teammates, or has more contempt for shortcomings of others than Rondo. Doc can handle this.

Yeah; is DeAndre on a max deal worth more to us than all of Lopez, Wes, Afflalo, and Kaman? I don't know about that. Losing Wes would be real hard; we'd have to start Crabbe or CJ or whoever we can sign for the room exception. Just wish there was a way we could still keep Wes on a one year deal then give him a big payday next summer. But even if we have to let Wes walk I would like that starting lineup more. But once again we'd have major Blazer bench trouble. It might be a worse bench then the one that failed the Clippers this season.

Is a very damn exciting group of 6 players though. Neil get that done but figure out a magical way to keep Wes too.

Maybe the hope would be we agree to the max deal with DeAndre; but are able to ultimately work out a sign and trade with the Clippers so they get Lopez. That is the only way they could acquire a competent center since if DeAndre leaves they still have no cap room. Give them whoever we draft and Allan Crabbe. If it was a sign and trade we could keep Wes, Afflalo, Kaman.

You're not giving the fans enough credit here. There are some who would turn on him during the RUMORS of him signing here.

First, he can only get $80 million unless he stays with the Clippers.

Secondly, is the job of Blazer management to worry about what some fans will complain about or the performance on the court?

DeAndre is one of the top players in the league at his position; far better than Lopez. If you have a chance to get a player like that you do it. With the cap and luxury tax increasing the Blazers will still have salary space to keep everyone on the roster.
