Freshman Anthony Davis flirted with a triple-double against Transy. Not that he's a finished product. "He's got to be a stronger player and a tougher player," Calipari said.

"I know I'm going to have to stay in the post a lot," he said in a tone that suggested it was a chore rather than an enticing idea. "I feel comfortable (in the post). I need to learn more moves."

I haven't seen NBA scouts this excited about a big man since Greg Oden hit Ohio State's campus as a freshman in 2006.

Whomever drafts #1, and if both players declare, do you take a super-talent like Davis or do you go for the explosive (6'11" 275 lbs.) big in Andre Drummond?

An oddly familiar conundrum.

Watched a little bit of Belmont/Duke. Austin Rivers looked good, but needs to put some weight on. He had a Dwyane Wade type shimmy shake move in transition.

If your franchise isn't called "The Trail Blazers" You go with the Explosive big man and watch him be the next Dwight Howard/Stoudamire depending on were his talents lie.

Drummond certainly was Oden-esque in his first game against Columbia. 4 rebounds, 1 block, and 3 personal fouls in 12 minutes.

Scout’s comment: “He’s the first legitimate center prospect since Greg Oden(notes). He’s got the physical tools of an everyday center in our league. Haven’t seen him a whole lot, but he’s big, raw and physical. You have to take him first.

Looking at SG-OTF I like Rivers and Brad Beal; both a little undersized (6'4") but are high IQ players that can shoot.

Good battle going on right now between Sullinger and Patrick Young on ESPN2

Keep an eye on Ray McCallum. His on-ball defense is very strong!

I watched McCallum play the other day against Notre Dame. He's good and can stroke it. But, he tries to do too much. Definitely solid D and a nice jumper. A little undersized. He's late 1st, early 2nd round type talent.

Sullinger has that Z-Bo-esque knack for scoring but I came away impressed with Aaron Craft.

"He physically beat up our guards and manhandled our guards. I am not saying that he was fouling; everything was in the confines of the game. I have a lot of respect and admiration for him. I don’t think he gets the respect he deserves around the country

"Craft as a freshman, at our place a year ago, was spectacular beating the press," Donovan said. "But I thought he dominated this game tonight from start to finish.

Craft looks like a heady point for a freshman, I dont see anything thus far that says he's an NBA guy. Sullinger beasted as usual, but I thought the best player on the court was William Buford.

Anybody catch my boy Kevin Pangos and his nine 3's? Kids gonna be a baller.

Another note, I watched U of P take on UW the other night and holy shit, Terrence Ross from Jeff can shoot lights out. Supposedly he's been working out a ton with B-Roy. Looks like its showing. He was hitting contested jumpers all night and looked silky smooth doing it.

Anthony Davis looks good, but needs to start hitting the buffett line. He's got some ridiculous length and springs though, reminds me of Henson and Brandan Wright as freshman. Oh, and someone seriously needs to tell him to shave that unibrow.

I saw quick highlights of the 9 3's Seemed like he had 4 or 5 in the first 10 minutes of the game. Did he miss many? I just saw the makes on ESPN.

About Ross, kid can flat out ball. Silky smooth is a perfect description of him. I wouldn't be surprised if he worked with Appleby over the summer. He worked with Gaddy last summer and vastly improved his stroke. I'm actually more excited about this years team than last years. IT was great and all, but to have size at the point is something I'm not used to. Plus, no more out of control (on and off the court) Overton.

here are highlights from that game.

Oh, and UCLA is imploding. Losing their first 2 against lower competition (and with a trip to Maui soon could be something like 0-5 by the end of the month). They're going to kill other Pac-12 schools RPI. And then, on top of losing those games, their best player got kicked off the team.

The thing with Romar's teams is that year in and year out they never play disciplined basketball. Too many turnovers, too many lapses on defense. From an athlete standpoint I think they're always in the top 10 of the NCAA's. Its the coaching, not the recruiting that hampers that program.

Tony Wroten, seems like another guy with all the ability in the world, but not a clue on how to play smart ball.

Should be an interesting year for UW hoops, I think they'll be neck and neck with Arizona and Cal for the Pac-10 crown and lose early in the tourney.

Working with Gaddy on the jumpshot? You mean he was teaching Gaddy how to shoot a jumper? Ross' jumper has been better than Gaddy's since day 1.

I think Pangos missed 3 of his attempts.

Reeves Nelson got kicked off the team?

Watch the 1:13 mark of that video. That was pretty Roy-esque.

Yeah, taught to shoot is a better description. He was a disaster his first year. As is Wroton right now, shooting wise at least.

I think having height at the point will help a ton during the tourney. I was at the Sweet 16 game 2 years ago against West Virginia. Their 1-3-1 zone killed us. None of our PGs could pass (or see) over that first guy. I think our downfall will be our lack of depth at the 4 and 5. Hopefully Shawn Kemp Jr. can develop into a good backup this season.

Romar on Ross:

Coach Lorenzo Romar paid him a high compliment comparing Ross to Brandon Roy and Spencer Hawes in terms of raw basketball talent.

"In terms of just his talent alone, right up there with Brandon Roy," Romar said. "Brandon Roy had signed when we got here. Spencer Hawes is really talented. To be able to do what he does at 6-11. The way he passes and shoots and all that, he's really talented. Terrence is up there. He's up there in the top couple."

"I'll be honest with you," the UK coach said when asked about comparisons of Davis to Camby. "Anthony is probably a little ahead, but Anthony is not as tall."

That was saying a lot, given that Camby led UMass to the 1996 Final Four, was the national college player of the year and sparked the Minutemen's stunning entry onto the basketball scene.

"Physically, ahead," Calipari said of Davis, who is listed an inch shorter than Camby. "Skills shooting the ball, ahead."
-Bedge

Interesting comparison. It's difficult to gauge him right now because of his severely slight built. Davis at 6'10" 235 lbs, he'd be a monster.

Davis (via draftexpress):
Height (with shoes): 6-9 ½
Weight: 208.7
Wingspan: 7-4

Camby (at the time of the draft):
Height: 6'11" (w/o shoes)
223 lbs.

Unless he still has room to grow the height difference between these two is pretty significant.

I dont see anything in Camby and Davis' game that are similar other than their build.

Watching UNC I think Tyler Zeller is going to be one of those players that annoys the hell out of you.

He flops and does it well. He's like Scott Pollard in this regard.

I'm watching Michigan play right now. Tim Hardaway Jr. looks like he's gonna be a damn good player. Skilled and understands the game. Really unselfish. Good size, unlike his pops.

fuck kentucky, every year they have like 3 of the top 5 freshmen, annoying

If you wanna watch some good college ball, turn on ESPN right now.

Duke/Ohio St.

This William Buford dude for Ohio State is a baller. Kinda reminds of Roy in that he's stayed all 4 years and has good size for the SG position. He's a money long ball shooter.
