Collins, the 10th overall pick of the 2017 draft, is among the players eligible for a rookie-scale extension by December 21st. However, the 23-year-old big man and Portland will conduct discussions on a long-term contract after the season.

“Neil and I have talked quite a bit about Zach, and there’s no question how strongly the Blazers feel about him,” agent Mark Bartelstein of Priority Sports told HoopsHype. “We both feel that an extension probably just doesn’t make sense at this time based on Zach not having a chance to play as much last year due to his injuries. Everyone’s focus right now is on getting Zach back to full health and having a terrific season, and then Neil and I will sit down and get to work on a contract this summer.”

I think Zach is good piece to this team especially on defense. His rebound average been going up every year and as much as everyone say he fouls a lot he does one thing that there missing right he makes people miss at the rim due to he pretty good rim protector. Right now even Nurk is not getting the job done.

Why did we even pick a guy 10th who didn’t even start ahead of players who didn’t make the NBA

*from a positive outlook on the situation*

we get Zach to come back for cheap and he blossoms into a solid nba big who helps defensively

he has been healthy for 2 of his 3 seasons and what he showed then was that he has the talent of a backup
Collins barely played his rookie and hasn’t had the chance to be a starter for a full season. Last season was supposed to see how he was a starter. We were 8-3 in the games he started last season.

I'm hopeful Zach puts it together, his defensive footwork is great and he can shoot.

But his career has been more about what he could be, and there is no guarantee he will even be a backup role player.

So not doing an extension is good. Hope Neil doesn't give him a stupid Meyers deal if he has a poor season.

lol...that 8-3 bullshit is like a meme around here. As if that was all because of Zach instead of Dame

Collins, Anthony, Giles, Jones Jr, Trent Jr, Hood, and Kanter all have the potential to be FAs next season
I expect Kanter, Hood, Anthony and Giles to be gone for sure. Jones Jr is 50/50, Collins is 70/30 stay, and I believe Trent will be matched and back.

If Collins. Simons, or Little have any trade value at all, we need to grab it and run.

You already got one back in Giles.
So basically what your telling me... and I hope you're listening @AldoTrapani is that since we got Giles back for next to nothing, we essentially took Zach at 15 instead of Justin Jackson. 15 is also after Bam and Mitchell were picked. So I would like a permanent moratorium on complaints about Zach over Bam and Mitchell. I think that is reasonable... considering that complaining about draft picks with the long list of "bad" draft picks that every GM has made is completely unreasonable to begin with.

Blazer fans: What have you done for me lately? Oooh, you scored 20 points in a pre-season game? YOU'RE THE FUTURE!

only by default, in the way Aminu and Harkless were starters

True, and last year they basically had no other PF's on the team (until Melo signed, and he's a PF by default).

If the team continues to play like they did in games 2-4 in the Pre-Season, there's no way that Zach shouldn't be given a shot at the starting PF spot once healthy.
