I'm not usually pro government anything but I think the Feds need to push down regulations for consumer TV. Require providers to give consumers a-la-carte options for all channels. Require providers to give consumers the option to purchase all regional networks.

Cable and satellite companies will never change this on their own.

Woopty doo. Now if this was about Dish and Direct, it'd be interesting news. Otherwise, bfd.

Its pretty big deal if you in any of those service areas.

Meh, i guess after 6 years of bullshit this just isn't as exciting as it would have been at one point. I guess i'm kind of glad? At this point i was hoping the Blazers would wait for the deal to expire and tell Comcast to go screw.

I'd like to see Netflix add sports team packages to their service. That would be the most ideal for me - I haven't had any sort of TV service in years. But if I could pay $150 to Netflix to watch all Blazers games that would rule.

There should be a LAW against teaser rates for ANY industry IMHO.

It's not all wine and roses (pun intended) for this deal. Charter customers will have to purchase "Premium Tier" packages to get CSNNW,

Charter is just at bad as Comcast. They've been taking away channels on the basic package for years to only the premium, and they of course charge the same rate. Now you don't even get any new channels they may get.

There was a story on NPR about this just the other day. They said ESPN would cost 20$/month by itself. The reason rates are so high is they bundle channels that nobody wants with the expensive ones and call it a deal.

Yeah, I use to think a la cart would be awesome. But the way the cable companies operate you'd probably end up spending MORE money for less product.
Cut the cable! Don't go back!

Boom, bitches!

I have Comcast at home and Charter at the beach house. Since we go to the beach house 2-3 weekends per month, I figured I'd have to miss a bunch of games. This is great news. I won't miss any games.

I did buy a pimpin' tablet so I suppose I could also use the Comcast app to watch the games while at the beach as well (the pic plugged into a TV is pretty high-quality, too).

Either way, I can't lose on this.

Laughing at how so many of you find a way to complain about good news.

Not sure how this is "good news", since it doesn't fix the biggest issue that comcast has with Blazer fans.

Comcast signs these minor deals as a sign they are working diligently to insure as many Blazers fans as possible have access to the games. Bullshit. They did the same thing with FIOS (which is what I have) a couple years back. They only do this with small companies, not serious competitors. They will NEVER sign a deal with DirecTV or Dish. Having the Blazers gives them a competitive advantage over their two biggest competitors. Seriously, this is now the start of season 7 of a 10-year deal, and they have made ZERO progress on reaching an agreement with the satellite providers.

They lied about this when the deal was first announced:

"Comcast SportsNet will be carried on Comcast Cable systems in the Northwest and made available to other cable and satellite providers throughout the region.

and pretty much every year since (Larry Miller was a lying douche bag). This has been on their FAQ for at least 5 years:

"Q: I currently have Satellite coverage only. I do not subscribe to Comcast; will I be able to see the Trail Blazers play?

A: As a Satellite subscriber, you will receive the 23 KGW games, as well as any other nationally televised game on ESPN, TNT and NBA TV. The 53 games broadcast by Comcast SportsNet are currently not carried by satellite providers. Comcast SportsNet is negotiating as we speak with Dish Network, DirecTV and the other cable television providers in the Oregon/SW Washington. We are hopeful that a deal will be worked out soon to provide Dish and Direct customers with access to the 53 Comcast SportsNet games. "

Bullshit, over six years later and ZERO progress with the satellite providers. Six years may be "soon" in geologic time, but not to us humans. Comcast has never even attempted to negotiate in good faith with DirecTV and Dish. Any claim that they have is a lie. If I worked for the Blazers, I'd be embarrassed to have that line of bullshit posted in the FAQ on my companies' web site. Blazers games will not be available to satellite subscribers until this 10-year monopoly with Comcast expires.

They need to update the FAQ to say: Just 4 more seasons of missed games for satellite subscribers. They should post one of those countdown timers on the FAQ page that counts down to the day the Comcast deal expires.

I laugh at you for being bought on the bullshit by Comcast. You do realize it's just to get more people to get Comcast Sportsenet, right? The ONLY way that fucktard of a stupid ass company will ever be given an inch of fucking respect is if they take the blazers off that and actually PUT it in more homes instead of GETTING more MONEY from these deals.

To sum it up: It's stupid news that shows comcast could give a rip about anything but money. There, you have been enlightened. You may now thank me, because you needed the lesson. :)

This is probably just going to piss a lot of people off down here that don't have the right package on Charter. People that were getting LP will now be blacked out and will probably have to switch from satellites or pay more.

827 HD? that would put it on a sports pay-tier with obscure channels that almost nobody buys now. I'm guessing it will cost something like extra $10-15/month.

Well then some of us could buy just CSNNW, TNT and for college football season Pac12. I don't need any other channels. If there were 5 or 6 providers with all those options just like cell phones I bet one of them would have a reasonable rate.

Can we pass a ballot measure in Oregon to require a-la-carte choices and subleasing of channels to every other provider in the state? I bet that would get over 80% of the vote.

There's a bit of irony in these Comcast threads.

People only care if the news impacts them, which is understandable that they would be selfish. However, those same people are pissed at Comcast for being selfish as well.

Could you get the sports tier with just extended basic, or would you have to get digital?

I had been using League Pass to watch games. Now it looks like I'll be blacked out. I guess I'm getting cable again. Oh well, at least I'll get NFL Network back.

I can't believe it finally happened. I figured we'd be waiting until the contract expired, maybe longer.

I'm so glad I moved out of a house that could get Charter to a place down a longer driveway now and I cant get Cable :( Still hoping for Dish deal someday

So today was the day it was supposed to turn on, can anyone with Charter confirm?

Now i've heard it's the 27th, why did they even announce the actual date, should have just said this fall.
