Yes, it is.

It's currently the biggest hole, even more so than depth.

I agree that it's a big hole, but a hole that can be filled with role playing centers (mainly defensive minded). What we need is that slashing guard that can create his own shot and get to the line. That guard will keep the defense honest. Our center needs to block shots, rebound and defend. It can be a one dimensional player.
 
To take than next step you need more of an upgrade at center than just role players.

We went down that road with Pryzbilla.

Are you insinuating that any of the centers we have been discussing for the last 2 months are the missing piece? I agree with Mags, I don't think a center is our missing piece. I think it is a SG.

With Pryzbilla, we reached the playoffs three years in a row. And his performance in those playoffs weren't bad. Our problem was our coach and the ISO heavy offense.

Got any suggestions then? I am looking for a player that can shoot and create his own shot; but must be able to slash and get to the line.

I agree. None of them are the answer. No one has come up with the answer. So pick someone up cheap for now. I am not seeing any other choice.

If numbers like:
15.4 pts/game, 10 rbs/game, 1.5 blks/game

Don't move the needle then what does?

There is only 1 Dwight Howard. Centers as whole are pretty underwhelming.

Not that there is anything wrong with shooting for the stars. With as bad as most Centers in the league are though you could make a case for Gortat being easily top 10.

Who you have in mind if Gortat is so bad?

We sure are asking a lot if 15/10/1.5 per game is not the answer. We are talking about a guy who can play D as well. This isn't a Hickson empty stats situation.

No I don't have a suggestion. I have talked myself out of all my ideas. (i.e Monte Eliis etc)

More than likely any option that gets us our "missing pieces" will come by luck. Look at Memphis their missing piece at center was all luck. A throw in to a bad trade. Maybe we get lucky in the lottery......two years in a row. Maybe he is playing in Europe or South America. I just don't think any of the free agents are going to get us to championship level.

The Dude has thought for a while that wingspan and reach are more important than height in a center. Any player really. Does anyone have those numbers for the players you guys are comparing?
 
I agree with what was already said above though. Standing reach and wingspan are what is important. Height is inconsequential.

Yeah, I don't want to give up Batum for him. Maybe if they wanted to dump him. But then someone would probably offer more than we can part with.
