...yet many people still approve of their own representative.

Question: Do you approve or disapprove the way the representative from your congressional district is handling his or her job?

I'm wondering which 5% are ok with how things are going.

On a serious note. Leadership in all branches are fucking pissing me off. They are acting like grade schoolers fighting over stale candy. It's really embarrassing.

If only they would remember this when it was time to vote them out of office. Hint, not going to happen.

I'm happy 90% of the time how my congressmen vote. I try to write them if something big comes out and I didn't like how they acted.

There was an interesting article yesterday in the Post about the role of gerrymandering in the shutdown: Did Republican gerrymandering cause the government shutdown?

“A big chunk of the Republican Party right now is — are in gerrymandered districts where there’s no competition and those folks are much more worried about a tea party challenger than they are about a general election where they’ve got to complete against a Democrat or go after independent votes,” Obama said. “And in that environment, it’s a lot harder for them to compromise.”

Our country is so polarized that there would still be this group of cast-iron [conservatives] who would be driving this debate. That fact that their districts are a few points redder doesn’t mean anything.

In fact, gerrymandering likely creates more marginally conservative districts than heavily conservative ones, because Republicans want to create as many that lean red as possible. So there are a lot more 55 percent [to] 60 percent Romney districts than there otherwise would be.

Some media outlets — and Fix Original Recipe – keep pushing this idea that gerrymandering is the cause of all this gridlock. But the fact is that our country gerrymanders itself, with liberals living in the city and conservatives living in rural areas.

I disapprove of all of mine. I much prefer the representative people in other States select. Not presenting one giant continuing resolution doesn't bother me at all. Several small appropriations is the way it is suppose to work.
Each program funded should be scrutinized each year and those that are not longer wanted should not be funded. That is how it should work year after year. I have been waiting to get scheduled into the VA hospital
for eye surgery for a couple weeks now but the government is closed down. So be it, hell, the house can fund what they agree should be funded and that is the way it should work I can wait even if I can't drive, so be it.

Democrats had the house and 60 votes in the senate in 2008. It's not Gerrymandering that lost the house in 2010, it was policies people didn't like.
