what else do you use them for? What USE does a gun provide other than killing or maiming?

People collect them and maybe never even shoot them. It's their right to pursue that happiness. People hunt with them. They use them for protection although they may never need to actually fire a shot. People like to shoot targets - it's even an olympic sport.

People collect cars, too.

Well, there's like a whole sport with guns in the Olympics that doesn't involve killing or maiming.

But, I get your point. I enjoy watching Top Shot. I don't shoot guns. At this point there are so many freakin' guns in this country, it's hard to say what should be done about it.

yep, has nothing at all to do with the question or topic. I'm glad people like to collect them, though. That's nice.

The question being... a dozen people abuse guns since 2007 so you want to trample the rights of 80,000,000 people as if it will make a difference?

BTW, I don't own a gun, never fired one. Don't care to. Don't care if you do, though.

As El Presidente said, there's a lot more gun violence than the school shootings.

A dozen people since 2007? Seriously?

This is true. And there has been so much high profile gun violence in the last 2-3 weeks. Belcher. Clackamas Town Center. And now this. It is becoming too tragic to bear.

Ever seen First 48? It's a cop show and the first 48 hours after a crime is reported is the best chance to catch the person who committed the crime.

Well, one episode was about these two guys driving around the city robbing people.

They spotted an old lady standing outside her store, ran up to her, stole her purse and shot her in the head and killed her.

How is that not abusing a weapon?

The show is all about true stories.

12,000 murders in the USA last year, 8000 by gun.
33,000 motor vehicle deaths.
151,268 all external causes of mortality.

To put things in perspective.

Denny,

Any statistics you post I don't take seriously. You twist things to the max. I've seen it in the OT forum as well as the Blazers forum.

So, not a dozen in 5 years, but 8000 in one year. Little different I'd say.

Thanks for making me cry, you bastard.

I cried too... but I kinda needed to.

I kinda teared up a couple of times today.

The one interview with a little kid I saw where the kid thought it was a wild animal inside the school that was eating other kids was just so fucking sad because you just know in his mind that was the most scary thing he could think of.

I don't know about the rest of you, but a bunch of mortality statistics is just the salve I needed to make me feel better about today.

Yeah exactly. Think of a nightmare, multiply it by 20, and experience it in real life. I can't even fathom...

and at one point the school intercom system was turned on and screams and gun fire were broadcast throughout the school.

Just so fucking horrific.

Well, now you know what its like to live in the hood on a DAILY basis. The thing is, when thinking about the ghetto, all the crackaz turn the other eye about gun violence but when it hits "close to home" only then is it a tragedy.
