Was it? He doesn't play defense, he disappeared during the playoffs and he does not play well with Brandon. He pretty much played the same role this year that Jarrett Jack played the year before. Was he really much of an improvement?-Drafting, recruiting, courting and signing Rudy was a good move.
Maybe we find a way for him and Roy to work together and it turns out to be a good move. Maybe we end up trading Rudy while his value is high and it turns out to be a good move. But right now you can't definitively say Rudy was a good move.
-Buying Batum was a good move.
Jury's still out on Batum as well. He also disappeared during the playoffs. He doesn't have any sort of an offensive game. Really only played in the first quarter. If it weren't for Martell Webster, who isn't exactly a world beater, getting injured Batum probably doesn't play at all last season. Could be he ends up being our future 3 and it turns out to be a good move. But it's also entirely possible that Martell comes back better than Batum and Batum ends up rotting on the bench.
Not like I should really be complaining about either of these. Getting anyone of use in the late first round is pretty decent. Rudy and Batum both appear to be NBA players. But they didn't really do that much to improve our team. Also, those acquisitions don't do anything to give me any sort of faith that KP can get us the veteran help we need for the upcoming season.
-Trading Jarret Jack (who wanted out and needed to be out) for Jerryd Bayless, widely thought by "experts" to be a guy who could've easily gone as high as 4 was, at the VERY least a wash of a move, but WILL be a good move.
The only reason this was a wash was due to Rudy. Otherwise it was a BAD move. We gave up a useful rotation player for a guy that didn't do us any good. If you're a Bayless believer, that's cool. You can believe it will be a good move. But right now there's no evidence that it was.
Your point is not lost, but it seems to me that what we HAVE been doing and NOT DOING for that matter, seems to be working. It's not like you can count that many specific BAD moves that they've done. They've been careful and conservative, which, with a young, developing team, is, in my opinion, the way to go.
I guess the way that I look at it is this, everyone and their dog knows that SOMETHING has to happen, so even if they have to take a stab at the next deadline, it, given the likely economic circumstances and teams ready to dump and run, WILL be at the very worst, as good as the offers we're getting now. I see ZERO point in rushing these decisions.
That's a good way to look at it. I'm just kind of feeling hopeless right now. Free Agency has all but come and gone and we've got nothing to show for it. I feel very much like I did at the trade deadline when we didn't do anything with RLEC. Just kind of resigned to the idea that we're gonna be a 1 and done team.
