I have some home movies on DVD and I want to take snippets out of them and convert them to file formats suitable for putting on a blog. Can anyone recommend a free program that does that easily? I'm not trying to copy copyrighted stuff, I really do just want to take small segments from a DVD and convert them to (say) mpeg format.

Not to hijack the thread, but it's the same subject. Is there any way to convert .avi or .mpg files to a DVD format that can be burned onto a disc and then played in a DVD player?

Yes, I use VSO's ConvertXtoDVD to convert avi's to DVD's. http://www.vso-software.fr/

DVDFab mobile is good too. I use it to make avi's from DVD's. You can find it on doom9.org, This version may only be a trial though, not sure.

Peace
