Why does it matter that they got stopped for jaywalking? That's not what got her punched. I've got a ticket for jaywalking before. Yeah, it sucks, but I had no right to attack the officer over it. She deserved what she got and it's too bad the cop was there by himself because the other girl should have been arrested too.

Was anyone else surprised about how much difficulty he had restraining her?

I think he was having difficulty because he was trying not to injure her. I think the cop was physically capable of making a face-shaped dent in the hood of his patrol car, and made a conscious choice not to do so.

BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Funny line. But I'm not repping you as it made me suck up my nose a coke I was sipping on. Ouch.

Does Mrs. BP know that you suck coke up your nose at the office?

<runs away, giggling maniacally>

BTW, I got ticketed once for jaywalking in downtown Portland. I couldn't believe it and made a few objections to the cop. I mean, literally, thousands of people jay walk in downtown Portland every day- not to mention the thousands of bicyclists running red lights... and I'm the one who gets busted. I went to traffic court and the judge seemed a bit surprised as well and tossed it.

Ever go fishing and catch every fish in the lake?

The cop went fishing and caught you

When I used to work with incarcerrated veterans, they all felt the same way. That of the thousands of people commiting the same crimes, they had to be the ones who got caught.

Uh, that totally sucks. In my lifetime I've probably jaywalked a thousand times and never had a problem. The streets are so much more narrow here than in Seattle so it makes it easier. I'll have to keep my eye out for cops now.

If this wasn't a black chick, it really wouldn't be a story.

This is exactly the problem, though. What kind of cop goes through the trouble of hassling somebody for jaywalking if they know full well that it isn't likely to go anywhere? Are they just trying to make a point? "Send a message" ala refs at the Rose Garden? It just smacks of arrogance and instigation.

If nothing else, it's a way to get money for the city, right?

tickets for jaywalking are lame but the cop wasn't in the wrong here at all.

I doubt it gets thrown out. Of course, the cop wouldn't have know what kind of brouhaha he was getting into when he tried to cite the first woman.

Hm. Police procedure and training states (according to one guy last night) that in that specific case, the officer would've been justified using fists, baton, or taser.
How did the officer overreact (and need punishment) if she's resisting arrest?

Well, like I said, we don't get to see any of the events that transpired before the video begins, but I think it looks like he was overreacting to a jaywalking stop. It just seemed like he lost his temper. He lost his cool. He seemed so focused on handcuffing the first girl, he completely lost control of the situation. I think he mishandled it, and I think he should be punished. I think she should be punished too. I don't think he should lose his job, but I hope he learns from the event.

The cop is one of the biggest pussies ever though....he seriously could not control a freaking 19 year old girl

Do you have kids? Just curious because I think those that do would not agree with you. Sure it's easy to control someone weaker than you, but if you're trying not to hurt them you look like a fool becaue you can't. The cop was probably trying to be as gentle as possible, especially with all those people around. Then got pushed, and he stopped being gentle.

lol at people who are trying to defend giving tickets to jaywalking. you guys are total #1 americans, your medals will be shipping directly to you, along with a cookie and a handjob. "JAYWALKIN' IS 'GAINST THA LAWW, ARREST 'EM, THIS IS 'MERICA."

^^Thanks. Though I don't need the handjob or the cookie, and I have enough medals.

You can argue that laws against jaywalking are silly laws. But when you try to say that the police should choose not to enforce a certain law because you think it is silly, well, that just makes you sound silly.

I like getting medals, I like getting cookies, and I certainly like getting handjobs.
