You can argue that laws against jaywalking are silly laws. But when you try to say that the police should choose not to enforce a certain law because you think it is silly, well, that just makes you sound silly.

I like getting medals, I like getting cookies, and I certainly like getting handjobs.

hi-five. all of our valuable resources can be put into stopping people from crossing roads, I can finally stop doing my 'merican duty of tackling jaywalkers while screaming "Citizen's arrest, motherfucker". It's so fucking important, it make me feel extra American. FUCK THOSE JAYWALKERS. FUCK THEM FUCK THEM FUCK THEM, WORSE THAN COMMIES/OBAMA. All cops should be arresting jaywalkers ALL DAY LONG. Fact.

Why should my car insurance rates, and health insurance rates go up because someone is too lazy to go to the crosswalk? They give people tickets for running a red light, but if there is no one else around, who are they really hurting? If I am going 100 mph on an open freeway, should I not get a ticket?

They actually built an overpass so people wouldn't run across the intersection. Its like running across a freeway. You're not supposed to and they fine you. Just like other stupid laws. My last ticket (like 9 years ago) was for going through a wrong way sign in a residential neighborhood to park. It sucked because there was no one in the neighborhood but the cop....I'm not going to attack a fucking cop because of it.

And the police officer was fired and was charged with assault. What's your point?

That police officers using excessive force against People of Color because as a society White People tend to see People of Color as less than human is nothing new. Just as this previous sentence of mine will be blasted for categorizing the actions of police officers, namely White police officers, and White People as group actions instead of individual actions. But People of Color and their actions are often viewed by White People, as experienced on this very board, as a reflection on their race (aka group) as a whole.. instead of the actions of individuals.

The officer in the punching video showed no restraint in punching that young girl in the face. None at all. He turned around, saw her, and punched her. If she had been White, it is certainly possible he still would have punched her, but it is also more likely it would have been used as a last resort - or at the very least, he would have shown initial restraint. It is a tendency for White People to see Black Women in particular as less feminine/womanly, especially in comparison to White Women. But the cause for that is another thread, but it is there and her being Black did play a part in her getting punched without any hesitancy. Even if some people don't want to see it, and instead regard racial issues as sarcasm and just a figment of People of Color's imagination.

Uhh...no. He punched her because she was attacking him and out of control.

doesn't matter what color you are. You don't hit cops. And as far as "last resort", did you watch the video to see how long he'd been putting up with screaming, hysterical woman pushing him around and not acting the way they were supposed to before he was assaulted?

Boats and stars wins this round. for a couple of posts I thought he was serious.

That's right, you've been oppressed for all these years.

LOL does anyone have a mirror? Do you want to be the pot, or the kettle?

It's also certainly just as possible, for all you know, that he would have punched a white girl harder.

It is a tendency for White People to see Black Women in particular as less feminine/womanly, especially in comparison to White Women.

I can't wait to see the study you are quoting here that said that.

I agree that racism exists. All someone has to do is read your post to know that it does.

But it does matter what color you are. A White Woman would not have been punched that fast, if at all. If the Officer turned around and saw a White Woman, I guarantee he would have shown restraint and conflict in his decision before punching her. There was none of that in this situation with the Black Girl. Just like there was no hesitation in kicking the Latino man in the head for absolutely no reason, and then being kicked in the legs, and no hesitation in the absolute brutal take down, and then punching in the back of the head while immobile, of the young Black Girl for kicking a shoe out into the hallway at an officer. A SHOE.

I'm White, sweetheart.

But please cry reverse racism more. I know I used to, before I got punched in the gut by reality. I hope one day you see that things are not at all equal and this is not a post-racial America like us Whiteys want to believe.

what, that you change the facts of what happened to attempt to justify this girl attacking a cop? The bitch was out of control. Its either punch or stungun.

I didn't justify the young girl attacking the cop at all. I just said that a White Girl or White Woman would not have been punched in the face nearly as fast, if at all and certainly without such a lack of hesitancy, as the young Black Girl was.

Not once did I justify her pushing the cop.

Well, maybe the white women wouldn't be as uppity?

White Women don't tend to be racially profiled by the Police or fellow White People. White Women are often not seen as being less feminine and less than their female counterparts simply for being White.

Maybe there's a reason for that. To me, at least, black women are generally louder and confrontational than other races. They think their shit don't stink and can do whatever they want without repercussion. Do you think the cop can "reason" with someone like that?

I love how your post is based all on assumptions and no facts. I agree with MM 100%

I don't quite get where you're getting the basis for your stereotype from, but in this case it doesn't matter. A policeman was assaulted by a citizen. Doesn't matter if it was a black girl, white man, hispanic grandmother, sikh college student, whatever. A policeman was assaulted and responded in accordance with his training. If you don't want to be hit/tased/gassed, then don't attack a cop. Perhaps it's that this particular girl wasn't punched b/c she's black, she's punched b/c her criminal nature led her to attack a cop.
Rosenthal appeared Tuesday in King County Juvenile Court, where supporters said that she lives at the Virginia Miller House, a residential facility with behavior-modification programs for teen girls, but was in contact with her family. It's unclear why the girl is not living with her family.

King County Superior Court pro-tem Judge Ann Danieli found that Seattle police had probable cause to arrest Rosenthal for investigation of third-degree assault and obstruction. However, the judge agreed with the girl's defense attorney that she should be released ....

Rosenthal was charged in November with second-degree robbery. According to prosecutors, she punched a 15-year-old boy in the face while she and a group of youths were on their way to a rave in South Seattle last Aug. 28. The boy told police that his cellphone and $20 were stolen in the incident. A 14-year-old boy told police that he was punched in the head and his hat was stolen.

Authorities say the case was dismissed when the boys refused to testify.

In April 2008, Rosenthal was charged with third-degree theft after she allegedly stole a minivan in Tukwila, prosecutors said. Kent police said she used a screwdriver to break the ignition and start the vehicle.

The charge was later amended to theft of a motor vehicle. Rosenthal was given a deferred disposition — charges would be dropped if she stayed out of trouble — because it was a first-time offense, said Ian Goodhew, deputy chief of staff for Prosecuting Attorney Dan Satterberg.

When I am able to go into a job oportunity against an equaly qualified black man, and have an equal chance at getting that job, I will stop. Or my children having an equally fair chance at getting into a school vs the same qualitfied black or hispanic child. As for you being white, that doesn't stop your entire post of being extremely racist.

She was punched because she assaulted a police officer.

I do, however, think that the girl was resisting arrest, which is a no no, and the other girl should not have approached the officer. I'm not an expert on police procedures, but I think he would have been within his rights to taze both of them. Punching the girl in the face seemed very extreme, but she did put her hands on him while he was trying to make an arrest.

I'd rather be punched in the face than tazered, but that's just me!

Anyway, haven't read the whole thread, but after watching the video I'm gonna have to side with the officer. I've been pulled over for bullshit laws before, such as not coming to a complete stop (I did slow to near stopped and looked both ways) at a deserted four way stop. But then out of the blue some asshole cop pulls me over because he needed to reach his quota for the day. Yes I was pissed, but I did what he said and was apologetic and cooperate. What happened? He let me off with a warning, no ticket.

I mean, give me a break, resisting arrest over something that stupid? You can't resist like that, flailing your arms at an officer and expect no consequences.

I think most people understand things aren't perfect. I'm going to go out on a limb and say they never will be. However, I feel that some tend to over-compensate, and look at EVERY situation in which a minority is involved and scream racism. Sometimes it's just not about race, as badly as you want to believe that, Sugarnipples.

I was waiting for the half-wits to jump in to this thread and drive it in to oblivion. It's the most basic common sense you can posses as an American - you don't assault cops. Never. Ever. If you do, you will get punched, tazed, taken down. Doesn't matter the circumstance, doesn't matter if it's right or wrong. It just is. Why is this hard for people to comprehend?

If the police officer was a black man would these black women have acted the same way?

Also, I cannot stress enough. NEVER. EVER. jaywalk. it is NOT a victimless crime. It is DANGEROUS and IMMORAL and you can go to jail. I know a lot of "recreational" walkers and let me tell you something, they'll be dead or on welfare in the next few years. It's a gateway walk that can lead to more serious types of walking... sleepwalking for instance. Do you know how many people it kills a year? I can only hope that when we finally get a a god-fearing republican back in the WHITE house that we'll finally issue a national mandate on jaywalkers. I have an idea, let's send all of the jaywalkers to an island and let them all live there and walk where ever they please, just so long as they aren't in MY neighborhood, where my CHILDREN can see them! CHILDREN!

Look, I have no problems with Jaywalkers... my Aunt is a jaywalker, but they don't deserve special treatment and what they are doing is wrong.. It's a sin. I pray that they can see the glorious light that so many on here have found and they will soon know, that the only acceptable way to walk is in the footsteps of our Lord and Savior, Jesus H. Christ.

punch was clearly justified. just a shame it didn't result in more damage to the punchee

What if it had been a white man instead of a black girl receiving the punch? Would you be decrying the "lack of hesitancy" then, declaring dogmatically that "a White Girl or White Woman would not have been punched in the face nearly as fast, if at all"? Would you be so quick to villify the officer if he had potentially exhibited gender-based biases rather than race-baced ones? Or is it only theoretical biases in favor of "the establishment" that are unacceptable?

Can you rail against seatbelt laws next? I got a ticket a couple months ago for driving without my seatbelt, and neither the ticketing officer nor the judge could effectively explain why I should be cited for an infraction that impacts nobody but myself, except for the fact that it's a law and I'm obligated to obey it. Although, oddly enough, I did not attempt to ram the officer's motorcyle with my car because of my outrage over the injustice of the consequence. I just took my ticket like a man.

Oh wait--I'm probably being sexist there. I just took my ticket like a person should.

And don't even get me started on seatbelt laws, we are not communist Russia-China, are we? I'm for legislation to get children taken out of the custody of parents who don't click it.

Just sayin'...
