Trump Reportedly Weighed Letting COVID-19 'Wash Over' U.S., But Was Warned Of Grim Toll

President Donald Trump asked his top health adviser last month why officials couldn’t simply let COVID-19 “wash over the country,” infecting people, The Washington Post reported Saturday.

In his haste to jumpstart the economy, Trump posed a frightening scenario to Dr. Anthony Fauci during a task force meeting in the Situation Room. No COVID-19 countermeasures would be taken so that people would quickly become infected, with some recovering to create a protective herd immunity, sources told the newspaper.

“Why don’t we let this wash over the country?” Trump asked, a question others told the Post the president has raised repeatedly in the Oval Office. Fauci, the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, realized with surprise that Trump was serious, the Post reported.

Mr. President,” Fauci responded, according to the Post. “Many people would die.”

My wife says there are people who quit working for her company just before this happened. I can't find an article that says the governor has waived any rules keeping people who quit from being denied unemployment. Hairdressers quit and get new jobs all the time during normal economic times.

She says she doesn't think they are being granted unemployment just yet.

The funny thing (sad actually) is that people aren't staying home. They just aren't going to work.

Someone in the home is going grocery shopping and many are still working like me. The kids are getting free meals at school and the fast food places are open.

With visitors from all over the world every day of every month of every year we should have been way worse. Remember I went to a Knights game March 1st and things were still open for some time after that.

This just makes me believe even more that this was already here at the end of last year and was full speed ahead in January.

Is that accurate and if it is, what is the FBI doing seizing medical supplies from states? That's fucked up. It's bad enough that FEMA is stepping in and seizing orders from states who have contracted with other entities. You know, doing for themselves what trump is refusing to do. But to come in and steal from states and hospitals is nearly impossible to justify....of course, it doesn't have to be justified because the GOP has allowed all oversight to be gutted and what's happening is hidden

Your theory seems highly implausible.

Las Vegas is the opposite of a closed community. If the virus was running rampant in Vegas in Dec or Jan, it would have been spread throughout the US immediately by tourists. Yet that didn't happen. Why?

Also, with no social distancing at all at that point, you would have had an infection rate similar to Wuhan. You would have had thousands of deaths. Now maybe Las Vegas natives are a hardy breed and have natural resistance. But that certainly can't be true of all the tourists, at least not the ones I've seen.
