I agree its more of a capacity issue, but his point is until a vaccine is available if there even is, the disease isn't going anywhere, were just locking it up because of capacity issues.
My son told me Kaiser is now going to tear down the tents for capacity help.
If heard immunity isn't viable why do so many doctors talk about it as a natural progression for the virus to run its course?
Even the article you just posted talked about a vaccine may not even be possible and the virus may just need to run its course.
In the mean time we cant burn down the house to try and save the house.

The burning down the economy argument is not accurate. The economy has changed for the foreseeable future. That's just a fact. Even if every state re-opens tomorrow doesn't mean things will get back to normal. Apply it to your life, are you going to go to Blazer games, concerts, and other events with large groups of people? The vast majority of Americans say they're not until a vaccine is available.

This is a very complex situation, the economy is not a lightswitch that we can turn on and off.

Never said Fox is not part of the problem. But I’m sure we can agree that their voice is much smaller than MSM. Add up MSNBC, CNN, ABC, NBC, and CBS; who trumps (pardon the pun) the viewership of Fox News.
But lets lay this out:
- Astroturfing campaign crops up with nationwide protests
- Fox News ratchets up their "liberate the US" message
- Trump does the same, in an about-face from the reopening plan he laid out 24 hours prior.

The truth is hiding in plain site. This is the thing that you're speaking out against, for good reason.

Agreed, but we really just want our hospitals to not be overrun with hospitalizations. The survival rate is much much higher with proper medical care.

We could conceivably open up pocket cities, with proper testing with this new federal guidelines. If there’s a spike, we would have the resources to move back a stage in that area and have the capacity to test and treat that area.

Currently, we don’t have a cure or vaccine. It’s too optimistic to assume a vaccine will be available in 18 months. We as a country need to find ways to create herd immunities. Shutting everything down doesn’t stop or kill the virus. It only helps to flatten the curve.

I’m not one to put stock in fox or any other high profile media outlet. I usually read both sides, check their supporting links and find my own interpretation of the data.

I gave you the definition of being a prisoner. How about you stop spewing your vitriol at someone you disagree with? I read Anne Frank’s diary. I didn’t see her able to go to the store, have a walk in town, able to do whatever the fuck she wanted.

No, she was a prisoner, living in fear, the fear of dying, being captured. Don’t come at me with that weak shit.

How dare you talk to a woman like that

Rep. Max Rose (D-NY) seems to be one of those lawmakers who rolls with the tide of political expediency. With that said, he did hit the nail on the head by criticizing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for her stonewalling of Congress's coronavirus relief efforts in order to get her liberal agenda enacted.

The Payment Protection Program, set up to relieve small businesses that have suffered during the coronavirus pandemic and economic shutdown, ran out of money on Thursday. Congress could have added another $250 billion to the program last week but Democrats blocked the vote.

Rep. Rose, who represents Staten Island, shared the following message with Pelosi and other Democratic leaders.

I understand that and realize that things have changed and will continue too. For retiree's like my wife and I we can weather it on our pensions and such but the younger generation does want to get back to work even if things have changed. If a vaccine isn't available within a reasonable, if at all, I think you may be surprised how many people will get out and attend things if available. Just my hunch.
Drive by a Lowe's or Home Depot and notice how busy they are, if the State Parks were open they would be filled.
Time will tell

No, that's exactly what you want to do. Flattening the curve is how we give the best possible medical care to as many people as possible using the limited personnel and resources that we have.

If we had unlimited medical professionals and equipment then sure, bring it on. But we don't.

more than that, we are seeing that there may be a few possible avenues for effective treatments developing. As more of the curves are flattened, and fewer people get infected sooner, rather than later, the better the chances are there will be effective treatments when they (we) do get Covid. And of course, the closer we would get to a possible vaccine.

Or, according to the interview above, flattening curves will mean more people will contract Covid when it's a less severe strain as it potentially mutates

Good article. Although, some of the studies weren’t peer reviewed which they stated.

I did like this statement: Experts say that SARS-CoV-2 likely falls somewhere in the middle, such that people who get exposed are neither sterilized against further illness nor left utterly defenseless.

This is a point I’m trying to say. Pocket mitigation with decent testing can control the spikes while an indefinite cure or treatment is validated. In the meantime, herd immunities and off label treatments can be used to help in process.

The main point of mitigation isn’t to kill the disease. It’s to limit the exposure of the of the virus completely overwhelming our healthcare system.

Look no further than Fox News riding the wave of an obvious astroturfing campaign yesterday. Or are we fooled into thinking these spontaneous protests were organic?

This is my issue with the armed people crowding state capitols to hold their rallies. Not that they are practicing their rights, but that they are doing so because someone told them to, not because they decided to spontaneously. These rallies are not organic.

More are now making plans to protest simply because Trump has told them too. We have a duty to practice our rights responsibly. They aren't being responsible. A lot of those people probably don't even know exactly why they are there or what exactly they are arguing for.

But, hey those guns look cool

Mnuchin tells Jake Tapper that a deal is almost finished.

"I think we're very close to a deal today. I'm hopeful that we can get that done," Mnuchin told CNN's Jake Tapper on "State of the Union." Mnuchin told Tapper he is hopeful that if a deal is reached, the Senate could pass the bill on Monday and the House could pass the bill Tuesday.

Mnuchin said that there will be money for testing, hospitals and small businesses in the new bill, but at this point, there will not be money for state and local governments. He said that the deal would allocate $300 billion for the Paycheck Protection Program, $50 billion appropriated for the Economic Injury Disaster Loan program, $75 billion for hospitals and $25 billion to invest in testing.

Coronavirus vaccine may never be developed, warns expert - but it could burn out

A vaccine for the deadly coronavirus may never be developed, a leading immunologist has warned.

But Professor Ian Frazer, who co-invented the groundbreaking HPV cervical cancer vaccine, also said it was possible that Covid-19 could diminish naturally, becoming less effective on its own.

The Australian told news.com.au that trying to immunise against coronavirus was like trying to immunise against the common cold - difficult to impossible.

He added: “It is tricky, vaccines for upper respiratory tract diseases, because the virus lands on the outside of you."

Prof Frazer, of Queensland University, said 100 teams all over the world were testing for vaccines, but he stressed there was no model of how to attack Covid-19.

Immunising against flu was more straightforward, he said.

“Coronavirus doesn’t get into you, it stays on the surface cells in your lungs," he added. "All these flu viruses get into you, so the body can fight and makes T cells.

“This virus doesn’t kill the cells, it makes them sick. At the moment we don’t know how to make a coronavirus vaccine work. That’s why there are 100 vaccines under testing using every conceivable approach.

“We don’t know if any of them will work.”

On a more positive note, Prof Frazer pointed out that a vaccine was never developed for SARS following an outbreak in China in 2003, but it burnt out on its own.

The virus became less effective as it passed from host to host, explained Prof Frazer - something that could feasibly happen with Covid-19 too.

He added: “It may well be the same with this virus. It’s not very effective in making us sick. It may become less effective."

How can anyone still believe that the virus wasn't made in a damn lab.

This is that Charlatan that says he has the power to blow the Covid-19 away.

Fake motherfuckers like that this piss me off. Using religion to make money...to buy expensive suits, cars, houses, jets, etc. All while pretending to preach the word of God.

And then to take another step and pretend to have created cures or to be able to cure diseases like Covid-19. They take advantage of so many people. It gets me heated to see it.

two important takeaways form that article in my view.

* One is that immunity, whether individual or herd, may very well not be as effective as hoped. It's not going to be a superpower and there are plenty of hints it won't grant any long term (as in months) shield against re-infection

* but the bigger takeaway is the same as just about every question right now: we just don't know enough. There's too little data and we're only a couple of months into studying the virus, the disease, and it's outcomes. We don't know how widespread it is because of massive testing failures. We don't know the level of asymptomatic infections or how infectious those people are. We don't know about the levels of antibody production in cleared patients or how long those antibodies last. Basically, we don't know jack shit yet

*******************************

in other words, at the same time we are trying to flatten curves, we are on the wrong side of the learning curves.

and here are some articles about doctors having to re-think treatment for severe cases and the uses of ventilators. Basically, what we suspect now is a lot different than what we thought a month ago:

The video is from an investigative reporter. But there is a timeline of events reported on the destruction of samples there. I’ll find the WSJ and New York Times articles when I get them. I’ll edit them into this post.

@illmatic99 what are you hearing about immune system stressors and how it relates to the virus, those who are asymptomatic now, but later becoming sick after other attacks on the immune system?
