Fact is though you can throw out a year or months or whatever, or say where its at on your priorities, and thats fine but to me getting my kids and myself to the dentist is pretty important.

But not your wife. Woooow. You laid out your priorities pretty clearly!

Well... There was no implication, I said exactly what I wanted to say. I hope they can make dentistry safe for patient and dentist soon, because Dentistry is important for our health, science backs that up quite a bit. I didnt say a word about “returning back to normal”, or about it being more important than the virus. Fact is though you can throw out a year or months or whatever, or say where its at on your priorities, and thats fine but to me getting my kids and myself to the dentist is pretty important.

yeah I go to the dentist too. So do my kids. It’s great. But people itching to get back to the dentist is one example of not seeing the big picture, to me.

Disagree. 22 million jobs lost. We have a shelter in place. Until we can properly vet new immigrants, it would be foolish to allow any mitgration.

Depending on whose numbers you use anywhere from 33-50% of US agriculture labor is legal and illegal foreign labor.

That's a huge portion of that workforce to remove right before May.

Many in that workforce have already been vetted and granted work visas.

To not allow them to work is not good for our farmers and economy.

False equivalencies are great. Yeah I want to go to the dentist, but that doesnt mean I cant see the bigger picture or that Im placing above anything else. That narrative was just filled in for me, I didnt say it.

Then if they have visas, they shouldn’t have any problem. The same ban on China allowed citizens and green card holders to get “repatriated” back into the country.

and if they are in the Country, they should be fine. This only applies for new immigration.

what false equivalency? You made a comment that you hope people can go to the dentist soon because it’s good for your health. I just said it’s way down the list and we can take a year off. Which we can. The big picture is who cares about the dentist we have a freakin pandemic going on. Things *like this* will be our undoing. I need the dentist, I need to see so and so, I need a haircut, I need to fly, I need to be in my office. I get all of it but it’s why this bitch is going to continue for longer than we want. If everyone bucked up for six months we’d be better off. Instead it’ll be two months and people will need to go do stuff and we’ll be dealing with this for many more months.

Trump: shit I’m Fucking this up and even my idiot base is figuring it out what should I do

NO MORE IMMIGRANTS. Whew. Crisis averted.

Ok this is your argument. I say I want dentists and patients to be able to do their work safely soon. You say, they can go a year (totally arbitrary number you’re just throwing out btw you have no idea), and that me saying I want to go the dentist means my priorities are off, because I cant see the big picture. You tend to think saying I want to go the dentist is the same as being unable to recognize there are other important matters. I didnt say, its priority one, two, three, four or any thing like that. I didnt say we should be protesting the stay at home stuff so we can go to the dentist. You have simply built up an argument I never once made. So that you could get to the narrative you want too, which is that apparently the thought of needing dentists will doom us all.

If we’re on lockdown for 6 months the economy will be totally fucked. We can’t wait that long.

The economy is already super-fucked. The longer its closed, the exponentially worse its going to be. It just isn't sustainable to keep things closed.

I will say this. This is the greatest opportunity in a generation to become wealthy.

Or really poor.

Or really poor.

I think a lot of companies won't be hiring back their dead weight. Shave them off the books. They won't be able to get jobs again.

The true economic impact won't hit for a few months. Once things are opening back up.

Right now there is little to no pain out there with economics. As people's savings become depleted, its going to be absolutely rough.

Me too. I think at least half of the new unemployed will be unemployed next year at this time. Even if they had important jobs, many small businesses aren't coming back and many big businesses who laid off people will have figured out how to automate those jobs (even administrative work), and or combine roles out of necessity. People can be really creative though new industries could sprout from this enabling new jobs. The longer it goes on the more likely big companies are to have figured it out without the work force too.

The longer this goes on, the more businesses will just disappear. These PPP loans won't do jack shit. I see a lot of companies taking the money and defaulting. It'll be a much leaner work force for the future.

And if we open too soon we are even more fucked.
How so?

The virus is not going to go away. There will be a second wave and probably a third wave. With how infectious the virus is, it will circle the globe several time over. What we're doing right now is not sustainable.

Sweden's approach is the most sensible to me. They haven't completely destroyed their economy - but are trying to take a sensible approach to minimizing spread. When I look at their numbers compared to other countries, they appear to be in the middle of the pack... which really makes me question whether this lock-down is doing any good or if we would've seen the same 'flattening of the curve' if we'd implemented Sweden's approach.
