Am i missing something with this curve? I saw it everywhere over the past week, but why does the flattened curve take longer to end?

I think the curve is supposed to demonstrate that even if the preventive measures don't reduce the total number of infections, there would be a benefit by reducing the total active number of cases at any one time.

I think social distancing will inherently reduce total cases as is. Think that graph is wrong.

I agree that it will. I'm just saying it's intended to appeal to those who disagree with you, who might think that social distancing won't reduce cases, to help them understand that even if they are correct, that the spreading of the curve still has value.

What is staggering to me is there STILL is a lack of readily available tests. We are a developed country, right?

Maybe stop taking money away from healthcare/CDC to put into defense and the wall. ugh. This is being so poorly managed. The fucked up thing is how even THIS is not a wake up call. Bernie tanking is even more disappointing to me now.

If they had a vaccine for the coronavirus tomorrow, I suppose all the anti-vaccers would decline. Which would be great because then nature would take care of the weak and life’s order would be right in line
Wait I thought anti-vaxxers were the reason people got sick? Which is it?

Slightly. US went from 100 to over 700 in 7 days. Italy went from 79 to 655 in 5 days. So our rate of increase is probably about 30% slower than Italy's was 11 days ago. The point, however, is that when comparing several countries, that 33% daily increase rate is reasonably average. US daily increase rate over the past 7 days has been 24%, 27%, 40%, 44%, 36%, 24%, and 30%. Average rate of increase in the US has been 32.2% over the past week--not far off the 33% line on that chart.

If that same rate continues for another week, US will have about 5,000 cases officially--who knows how many practically.
Official US figure of 994 yesterday, another 41% day-over-day increase.

Kinda surprising when sorting the data by total cases per 1M population to see the Scandanavian countries near the top.

That's cuz they're actively testing and making testing available for everyone for free.

They are probably representative of a better gauge of the mortality rate as well. Which as you can see is quite low compared to other countries.

My company asking everyone to work from home indefinitely and restricting travel

Anyone else on lockdown?
No sir. I have to travel around the country in a plane and stay in hotels with TONS of people.

I can relate, I also traveled about 80% and stayed in hotels. 100% Road Warrior!
Never caught SARS, Bird Flu, Swine Flu, Hong Kong Flu...I worried more about bed bugs, even in swanky hotels and just getting sick with the common flu.
Traveling Mercies pal!

The difference between Coronavirus and any other is that we're so unprepared. It's not going away anytime soon. Thanks Trump! It boggles my mind why anyone would back this buffoon.

I flew through Finland last month. There were a ton of asian people (I think most were Japanese on my flight) coming back from Italy via that route. I think its kind of a gateway from Asia to Europe for some reason, there were signs around the aeroporte to that effect.
