Your mom probably has more important things to do than to find links for you, don't you think?

Damn, just found out my aunt passed away. She’d just been hospitalized for Covid-19 a few days ago. She was my favorite aunt from my dad’s side of the family. Used to always overfed me with her delicious gumbo.

Another aunt (her older sister) had it too but recovered within a week. Didn’t need hospitalization.

This shit is as real as can get.
That sucks....several of my relatives in California are pissed because we told them not to visit us and the new grandson up here.........sorry for your loss...this is a brutal pandemic..fingers crossed here...I'm even wearing a mask on my hike now....just in case somebody huffing and puffing passes me jogging or on a bicycle...again the other day on my hike...nobody in sight but I could smell cigarette smoke....thought...hope that shit doesn't have covid in it....

I'm sorry.
Grief leads to recovery. Remember the good times.

Ohio researchers say they've identified two new Covid strains likely originating in the U.S.

KEY POINTS
  • Ohio researchers said Wednesday that they've discovered two new variants of the coronavirus, one of which has become the dominant strain in Columbus, Ohio.
  • The new strain prevalent in the city appears to spread more easily, the researchers said.
  • "This new Columbus strain has the same genetic backbone as earlier cases we've studied, but these three mutations represent a significant evolution," Dr. Dan Jones, lead author of the study, said.

Went to Vegas a few weeks back, stayed at the Nobu at Ceasars Palace. I would not recommend the property if you are looking for a safer experience, it really did not feel safe there. Too many people hanging out, capacity wasn't limited, no hand washing stations, etc. Crowd was a bit ghetto but not as bad as I heard how it was in the summer. People were hanging in the food court, bringing their own alcohol from outside and just hanging out. I've never seen so many hookers in vegas that wasn't a fight night.

Wynn and Bellagio was way more cognizant for safety measures, temperature scans, more sanitizers, not as crowded, etc. Even the Bellagio gardens was spaced out appropriately. Also checked out Red Rock, they were much cleaner too.

Mainly did stuff off strip, dined indoors, the system there was 25% capacity and you needed reservations. Seemed to be a good system to ensure no walk ups.

Just wait until the virus that mutates due to the vaccine comes out! :Sly:

Interesting. I didn't get my info from fb, I got it from the cdc website.

here's a cdc link with graph:

They are being conservative by using the terms "coronavirus-like" and "influenza-like".

From day 1, if someone dies and has coronavirus, they are labelled as a coronavirus death, almost regardless of what they actually dies from. Again, this makes sense since assigning cause would require a significant investigation. However, this means that the numbers are overblown.
If you die with Covid-19 you are a covid-19 death. By definition.

Not enough people die of other causes without covid-19 being a big factor to change the numbers. We know this because there have been far more excess deaths than deaths classified as covid-19.

We're missing more covid-19 deaths than we're misdiagnosing as covid-19 deaths.

I have friends dying too and my friends and fiancee are on the front lines.

And we have been more restricted here in LA than most places in the US. Haven't had indoor dining since March. Barely have had outdoor dining until they banned it last month. Activities restricted. Mask mandates.

Its bad out here, I won't even go to Costco or Target right now.
And California is in the lower half of infection and death rates in the country.

That's just the last 7 days. Look at overall. You were talking about restrictions since March...

Well, it is where we are now.

Most people out here have lockdown fatigue. Prolonged lockdowns cause this and no one is going to listen, even with the ICUs being at 300% capacity.

In short incidences, its fine (2 weeks to flatten the curve!), but when its basically on most of the year, people will tune the rules out. Especially in California, where everyone's special.

Problem is the halfway measures. If everybody else in the country would have locked down like California and Oregon we'd have been done locking down after a few months.

But historically poor leadership at the national level made that impossible.

So, here we are.
