Kary Mullis refuted the idea that CFC caused the Ozone hole, that humans have anything to do with global warming or that HIV caused AIDS. The man was basically a one hit wonder (potentially thanks to the use of LSD) that spent years studying Astrology. He basically fought the DNA analysis studies that his own PCR invention proved. Yeah, no disrespect - but the man was a very specific genius in a very specific area - and it did not seem to translate to any other areas from there. Would not take his assessment of other scientists seriously. Remember that this is the guy that OJ Simpson's own defense team who hired him decided he was not reliable enough to put on the witness stand...

In 1994, Mullis was invited to speak about PCR at the annual scientific meeting of the European Society for Clinical Investigation. Instead, he took the opportunity to impugn the science behind AIDS medicine. The chairman of the organization later described Mullis’s performance in a blistering letter published in Nature: “His talk was in style rambling and in content inappropriate for a public appearance of a leader of science. … His only slides (on what he called his “art”) were photographs he’d taken of naked women with colored lights projected onto their bodies.” His discussion of AIDS was “incoherent and insubstantial.”

Schekman, who calls Mullis’s Nobel a “complete fluke,” compares him to the man in the White House. “He’s the molecular biology equivalent of Donald Trump in terms of his personal behavior,” he says.

I suggest you read the entire article before you really take anything he said about other scientists seriously.

This is from the alumni of same university he got his education from.

Basically, you have no problem with him criticizing Fauci - but you have an issue with other Nobel prize winners like Schekman's assessment of Mullis.

The nice thing about science is that you have the record of the scientists work over the years - and it is clear which ones continued to work and are often used as references by many others.

Here is a quote from a "hit" pieces by the man himself:

I checked through Bi-Mart and Safeway and was able to find one with Safeway. My schedule is 100% flexible though, so I just took the first thing I saw.

Apparently you think you are one of the small minority that can make that judgement, Hailblazers? As you've decided Mullis is a good scientist and Fauci is not?

Mullis, by the way, has been dead for a couple of years now, so nobody knows what he would have thought or said about the current pandemic/vaccine issues.

is the website my wife used, then you select the Check for Appointments yellow button. Currently, it says none available, but usually at 9 on weekedays, there are some to choose from. I was able to do it from mobile for a coworker as well this week. I would say to randomly check as well, because people cancel appointments and some randomly come up as available. When there are some available, that next page will take you through a short list of like 10-12 questions determining eligibility. Good luck!

Also, my wife went in to urgent care on 82nd and Tibbetts, I think it was, and they were taking walk ins. They offered her one, but she had already gotten it.

It took me about two or three days but I finally got my wife on the waiting list. She got her Pfizer shot at the Portland airport about five weeks ago and gets her second shot tomorrow, Sunday.

Try the Facebook group “Find a COVID Shot Oregon”. They are supposed to be really good at finding appointments for people. Steve Duin has a column on it in today’s OLive.
