Which data is that? The most pessimistic data I've seen thus far is 80% protection from the Delta variant...

If 80% fewer people were being infected we'd be doing real well.
Data coming from Israel a few days ago. They were the first nation to get most of their population vaccinated.

They were calculating that the vaccine was currently only ~40% effective & even less so in the transmission of the virus

Today there was this report.

Here is the important quote:
It cites a combination of recently obtained, still-unpublished data from outbreak investigations and outside studies showing that vaccinated individuals infected with delta may be able to transmit the virus as easily as those who are unvaccinated. Vaccinated people infected with delta have measurable viral loads similar to those who are unvaccinated and infected with the variant.

My three are in school- elementary, middle and high school. I was totally fine with remote learning. And then in like March everything changed. Not just for us but for a lot of families we know. Kids checked out. Not all, but it was a total waste of time. They should have just said - here’s a list of 100 books. Read two a month and write a report. Done. Watching my 9,12.15 year old boys looking at a computer screen all day was torture. They learned very little. And teachers were hit or miss. A lot of them checked out too.
Great post. What I was most concerned about with my kids was the social aspect. Kids need to be out and around other kids. Their brains need the interaction more than learning historical dates on a laptop.

It doesn’t work like that from what I’ve read. Viruses mutate all the time but it’s totally random. Most mutations don’t confer any advantage to the spread of the virus. Those die out. Once in awhile a random mutation does happen to give an advantage that lets the virus spread more efficiently and that strain can become dominant. The more mutations that happen the greater the chance that one that causes spread will occur. The more virus a body is producing, the more likely an advantageous mutation will occur. Overall, vaccinated people don’t produce or shed as much virus as non vaccinated people so, presumably there’s less chance of producing a variant that causes problems, but it’s certainly not impossible.
Excellent discussion of how Darwinism works.
Viruses replicate pretty fast so they can be mutated really often. Something really bad can happen if the unvaccinated insist on being the host to this devil.

Wearing a mask doesn't actually prevent anyone from living life.

Why not rebel against wearing pants instead?

Pants-free in '73!

I'm going to start the day with your advice when I have to go to dialysis this morning. I'll bet the nurses enjoy the show.

When it comes to the flu it seems like animal versions are never good, bird flu, swine flu, let's hope rat covid doesn't kill us all.
I've been getting a craving for cheese lately. What does this mean?

Exactly. That is why CDC said even vaccinated people can spread delta variant. But they are far less likely to actually get sick and if they do they have lighter cases. Hospitalization and death are overwhelmingly unvaccinated.

Read before you post.

Wear a mask, get a vax.

The document makes clear that vaccination provides substantial protection against the virus.

Nothing says “I’m a dumb fuck” quite as effectively as putting out a meme like this one.

CDC at start of pandemic, knowing next to nothing about this new coronavirus, puts out general advice that’s effective against most viruses: wash your hands, avoid crowds and maintain some separation from people who could infect you. N-95 masks are effective but in short supply and needed for healthcare workers. Cloth masks can’t stop viruses because they’re so small so we’re not recommending them.

Dumb-fucks: “It’s the flu. Big deal. Bunch of pussies.”

CDC after some months of research learns that Covid is mostly spread through airborne viruses and that they are often combined in larger droplets and floating microscopic snot particles. They put out an advisory that wearing masks indoors can reduce spread.

Dumb-fucks: “But they told us masks don’t work! What a bunch of pussies!”

CDC learns that different masks made out of different materials block different sized particles. N-95 masks are still in short supply so they advise wearing two masks made out of different materials in crowded indoor spaces.

Dumb-fucks: “Now they want us to wear two masks! What a bunch of pussies.”

The virus is abating last spring and early summer. Community spread is down. CDC advises that vaccinated folks can stop wearing masks.

Dumb-fucks: About time. No one will know if I’m vaccinated or not. I’m not wearing a mask!

Delta variant is beginning to spread and infection rates are up. New studies show that even vaccinated folks can get infected and spread the new variant. Vaccinated people are still largely protected from serious illness, but CDC recommends everyone wearing masks to help limit spread.

Dumb-fucks: And now the CDC is telling everyone to wear masks again. I told you vaccines don’t work. You want to meet me at the bar tonight and help me make a meme? DF #2, “Nah, but you do it. I’m not feeling so good.

Truth hurts!

When Covid-19 first appeared, science knew next to nothing about it. Slowly we are building and analyzing a data base. Slowly because we want to be accurate.

This is about masks in general. They can't even make their mind on that.

So my COVID vaccination card on my phone has been randomly disappearing. I took a screen shot of it though.

Great post. What I was most concerned about with my kids was the social aspect. Kids need to be out and around other kids. Their brains need the interaction more than learning historical dates on a laptop.

This is why China will kick our ass. They have kids locked in rooms looking at screens all day learning. :Sly:

They have made up their mind... Masks limit the spread significantly.

When there is reduced risk of spread masks are not as necessary.

Texas?

A few months ago when they got rid of Mask mandates and social distancing, nothing really happened.

I'm sure they help minimally, but not as much as people think they are unless everyone is in N95s all the time.
