This...we need to keep in mind that those elderly people who have died or will die, are someone's spouse, sibling, parent, grand parent, etc.
Of course and I'm not sweeping it under the rug. 150k People on average die every day. It sucks. This may bring that average up. It's not apathy towards people dying that says I think the outlook of this thing is looking better than they predicted a few weeks ago. It's just following the numbers. Which it may get worse, I don't know. Heck, my Grandma lives in Washington, has severe respiratory problems, and is 80 years old in a few weeks, of course, I'm worried for her.

Agreed.

Gotta remember that we are in the early stages and people take awhile to die, they don't croak the instant they get it.
That combined with the lack of testing (other than NBA players, for some reason) make it impossible to know what the final mortality rate will be.

So you are saying to go to 24 hour fitness, brush up on my three point shot and ball handling skills, get on an NBA roster and I can get tested?

When you are a star(ter) they let you do it... grab 'em by the swab

You just know that was coming. Radio commentator blamed Bay Area shutdown on ... you guessed it ... gays.

Trump wants to keep the numbers low, so America goes without widespread testing. I find this unacceptable. This coronavirus is passing around the population by sick people as well as people showing no symptoms at all, meaning any and every person you meet might be a carrier. Testing will get the people who we know have it at home in quarantine or in a hospital bed depending on their condition. Not walking around with the rest of us. You can't keep America, nor the world locked up until this thing passes, just isn't going to happen.

Trump needs to keep out of this thing and let the professionals take over here, his take over of the situation and subsequent coverups are not making people feel safe.

Honestly I wouldn't trust what I'm hearing from any political leader.
What I don't get is the lack of testing whether that's from Trump, or the CDC or what who knows there's a lot of information out there to build whatever case you want too, but it does seem crazy people aren't being tested on a massive scale.

Most people thay have it, haven't been tested. And, most of them most likely won't, because there are not enough tests and only yhe sickest are being tested. We don't know the real numbers and percentages and we likely won't. But, they are much much higher than the numbers we are hearing.

The lack of testing is because there aren't enough tests. We weren't prepared. No one was. Neither Trump, the CDC, or anyone else in the state or federal government want to take responsibility for it. Therefore we aren't hearing anything about why. They fucked up. They fucked up big. All of them.

Exactly...and Trump still refuses to take any blame for any of it.

It's from Trump's own direction over the CDC that widespread testing isn't available. It's pretty clear to me, from the videos and articles that I have viewed/read, that Trump is in charge of this, and nobody else.

People need to face the facts, Trump is dictating directly to Americans that you are on your own when it comes to this virus.

Well of course. Trump never takes responsibity for anything. He actually said he wasn't responsible. He is. He fired his whole pandemic team. When obama was leaving they had a meeting to talk about the possibility of pandemics. Trumps people fell alseep and complained about having to be there. This is why they needed to be there. If they had paid attention, if Trump took this thing seriously instead of calling it a hoax then we would have a better footing. We would have more supplies. Trump just today finally made it to where we are producing more supplies. Those supplies should have already have been ready and waiting, just in case.

But, like I said, though he plays a big part, perhaps the biggest in our country since he is fearless leader, its not just him. Our government failed on every level, as did governments around the world. It's a fuck up of epic proportions. I hope that what comes out of this, is that we are prepared the next time. That keep extra supplies for it, an abundance of tests, vaccines, plans to pay people who can't work, etc etc.

Just taking the time to point out that I created this thread on Jan 3rd. The story in its infancy was concerning enough for me to post about.

January 3rd.

9 days ago our president was still posting things like this.

We should have been better prepared.

"Democratic hoax".

Maybe Trump should ask the families of those 22 who have died how they feel about it.

Not quite true governments around the world failed. South Korea has kept it under control after initial outbreak, so has Singapore. Not every country has become Italy.

Italy sees 475 new coronavirus deaths – the highest one-day toll of ANY country – and infections shoot up by 4,207, erasing hopes the rate was slowing
  • Italy records the highest one-day death toll of any country since the first case was detected in China
  • Civil Protection Agency announces 475 deaths as infections shoot up by more than 4,000 in a day
  • The update is a blow to hopes the country's lockdown had slowed the spread of Covid-19
  • Italian health chief Silvio Brusaferro urges countrymen: 'Do not give up'
  • Number of daily coronavirus cases in Italy had been fairly stagnant in recent days at around 3,500 per day

Yeah, Trump has failed miserably as president. He has shown all he cares about is his numbers and being re-elected. He doesn't give a damn about the people. Americans are dying as a virus is spreading around the world. As the president you have to take that seriously. You take every test you can get. You put every response program in effect. You get congress to put through aid bills to help working americans not just Airlines and big business. If supplies are low (there should have been stockpiles) you implement the production of more supplies immediately. Better too much than not enough. You call it a national emergency as soon as possible. You don't wait until you absolutely have to, until the numbers of the sick and dying are growing exponentially daily...by then it is to late. The numbers of the infected are far greater than reported. We don't have enough tests. We likely won't. People are without work sans paychecks to take care of their families. The time to act was months ago when this shit hit China and even before then. We were unprepared. We can never be unprepared again.

Don't think this was directed at me, but anyway, I know what you're saying but personally, my concern lies with the US...China, Korea, and Italy because of their large numbers of seniors, in my mind, should be in worse shape

But damnit, this is the US and I for one expect us to be better than this...my mistake.
