Trump: “I have directed the FDA to eliminate rules and bureaucracy so work can proceed rapidly, quickly and fast,” he said. "We have to remove every barrier.”

Hmm. My thesaurus says those three words describe pretty much the same thing. Trump's college essays must have been a hoot to read. Well, the ones he didn't buy off of some poor smart kid.

edited video much?

IF YOUR TIME IS SHORT
  • The video makes it look like Trump called coronavirus “their new hoax.”
  • In fact, there was nearly a full minute between when the president said “coronavirus” and “hoax” during a Feb. 28 rally in North Charleston, S.C.

Trump was bashing the dems as usual and called it "their new hoax"... aside from splitting hairs, I don't really see much of a difference.

Yes, the politicizing of coronavirus by the democrats was their new hoax.

That would be accurate.

Saying a drug (that has not even been validated or tested in a trial) is FDA approved is freaking dangerous. Keeping your mouth shut and letting the experts talk is more useful than providing false hope. He did it (LIED AGAIN) only to try to help the markets and his approval rating. Nothing else.
I feel like you have a very weird line you're trying to walk right now. On one hand, you're saying the government didn't act fast enough, on the other you're saying they're acting too quickly and that it's dangerous. You're saying let's not try to find hope in the research that's already been done, let's look at all the dead people in Italy. It's basically like you're going to be upset at just about anything. It's a "stressful" time for most people and I get that but our anger at each other as we discuss the issues isn't going to make it go away.

When the hell did i say this? He said a drug that is approved for malaria treatment is APPROVED for coronavirus. That is blatantly FALSE and was corrected a minute later by the FDA.

Same place as the CDC, notice how they don't seem to exist anymore?

Can't believe they muzzled the one guy who actually had a science background.

Instead we have bible thumping Mike Pence preaching to us.

Right here. since "experts" yesterday and Tuesday evening were already talking about this, maybe it's not "false hope". Elon Musk and others funding research have talked about it as showing a lot of promise and it has.

And you don't see a difference in that and saying the drug is already approved?

I don't think most people really care what's FDA approved, they care if it looks like it will work. If I had it and they said to me there's a treatment we think will work, but it's not FDA approved yet, I sure wouldn't be like well let's just wait it out til the FDA approves it. I guess I don't believe it's "false hope", because I was reading and hearing "experts" talk about it before he ever did. I don't have a problem with him or anyone saying there looks to be something out there that can help fight the virus.

I believe that what he was trying to say in his usual inept and confusing way, is that he's directed the FDA to waive their usual rules to allow this drug to be used for treatment of some patients who are seriously ill and who might be helped by it. It's been announced that it's being used in Australia with encouraging results.

FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn explained during the press conference it would be allowed under what’s known “compassionate use” -- where doctors can request to use the experimental drug and get permission from the FDA to give to patients. Hahn also said he didn't want to give "false hope" but said he was hopeful about the treatments.

Trump announces anti-malaria drug is APPROVED to treat coronavirus - but has to walk back the good news after FDA head says it is only green lit for 'compassionate use' in some patients
  • President Trump said in a Thursday press conference that the anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine had been FDA-approved to treat coronavirus patients
  • FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn corrected him, noting that the drug has only been approved for 'compassionate use' so its effects can be studied
  • The 50-year-old drug is already approved to treat malaria and some forms of arthritis but has side effects like eye damage and bizarre, disturbing dreams
  • In a French study, half of 36 coronavirus patients given the drug recovered entirely

Why are you finger pointing at people who finger point?

barfo

Someone has to point out common sense or we will ALL be lost without direction. Why are you pointing me out for pointing others out who point yet others out? See how this game goes?

Come on now. :) Nice deflection to the POINT of the post.

No, ABM, I know Trump is your god emperor but a vaccine will NOT be ready sooner no matter what you/he "thinks". Drug development is not a quick process. Phase One trials are in healthy people just to make sure it doesn't have terrible side effects. Only after this evaluation is Phase Two, where the drug candidate is tested on people who have the condition and compared to placebo. This is a small number of people. If the candidate passes Phase Two, it goes to Phase Three, similar but with larger group. If it passes Phase Three it then has to be ramped up for commercial production, as testing is only a few hundred or at most thousand. In a truly extraordinary effort, a successful Phase Three can be ready for market in maybe a month, if everything goes right. That month is after the year or more to get to that point. You cannot speed this up unless you want another thalidomide. And if you don't now what thalidomide is, look it up. It's why we now require extensive testing, so the cure is not worse than the disease.

Viruses have no nationality. They are not Chinese, American, Spanish or anything else. Trump has to have an enemy. Virus too nebulous but a Chinese virus, well, that's a dirty yellow slant eyed foreigner. Perfect. Asian-Americans are being harassed, even before lockdown Asian owned businesses were hurting, there are assaults. Words, especially from a so called leader, matter.

I know Trump is a fumblebum when it comes to making announcements like this, but this stupid game of "gotcha" that the media are playing isn't helping anything.

It would probably be best if the media didn't show up at his press conferences on this subject. Don't televise them, don't report on them. Don't acknowledge in any way that they happened or what was said.

Why is Trump saying he has effective medication that can treat the Coronavirus now when it's not true?
