I have never, ever been a Kate Brown fan but I was actually proud of her for sending those ventilators to an area that just had 600 plus people die in a day. As one article put it, she’s essentially doing what the federal government should be doing. Like her or don’t, that is leadership. And good karma. That is how it’s supposed to work in a civilized society. Cuomo seems like a stand up guy, and I expect he’ll be there for us if and when our time comes. For all the bad news of late, Brown’s example shines through.

We are woefully unprepared for anything. From the top all the way to the bottom. Politicians lining their pockets or protecting their interests. Experts change their mind daily. Media only cares about itself. The general population just being assholes. Healthcare systems that are run like shit.

Now we are being told to go sew our own facemasks. Seriously, what the fuck.

This whole experience should be eye-opening for all as to how fucked up as a society we are. We are not an advanced society.

In September 2018, the Trump administration received detailed plans for a new machine designed to churn out millions of protective respirator masks at high speed during a pandemic.

The plans, submitted to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) by medical manufacturer O&M Halyard, were the culmination of a venture unveiled almost three years earlier by the Obama administration.

But HHS did not proceed with making the machine.

I agree Trump hasn't gone far enough. But again, I would have gone full totalitarian on that ass.


This thread is about everything relating to COVID in the US.
 
I've been particularly careful to minimize my exposure. Gloves and P100 respirators every time I've used anything with chemicals in it. I can still smell a fresh open can of 3m filler from 20 feet away.

I don't even have paint thinner in my stall like my coworkers. I wear 3m ear muffs when any loud noise in the shop is being made.

At 45, I'm not sure how much I've been hurt by it. My memory not being what it used to be is probably a combination of both chemicals and age.

Most of my co-workers over the years have been smokers for some godawful reason. One of them would smoke while he sanded filler. I said he was crazy and he said in his scratchy voice "ahhh, these cigs are filtered"

Holy cow, I wasn't going to say anything for two reasons:
1. I figure he was just making a point and pretty much knew that China's population was just a bit more than India's 1.2 Billion;
2. Rather than embarrass him I thought I'd just let it go.

I didn't have any problem with TBF's reply, mainly because well, he was right.

I think we've all meant one thing but typed something different...as I've already pointed out, I knew full well what China's population is and I have no idea why I posted "3.5"...and I certainly did not think it was a big deal and neither did TBF...he simply pointed out my faux pas

And neither did I know that it would turn into a shit storm that resulted in 2 members being given "time outs"...If I had known beforehand how things would end up I would not have posted at all.

Cup and bodyman are both solid posters...but unfortunately both are also "opposite sides of the same coin".
