I turned the volume all the way up, but it doesn't seem to say anything at all.

barfo

That says a lot about you. It really does.

Why does this matter?

The Democrat candidates said a shit ton about how unfit Biden was during the primaries and now they say he’s the best man for the job.

Human beings are incapable of changing their minds. Once they've said something about anything that is what they think until the day they die. There is no such thing as hearing a different perspective of getting new facts or opinions that would allow you to think differently. Nope we are all robots.

So if the person they are calling a racist is still a racist, and all of a sudden they change their mind and think it's okay... that's not exactly a great reflection on both people.

Yes people change, yes we're not robots, but it doesn't mean that change is always good.

Trump is the worst person on this planet. I've been saying it for years, and it's not changing. See how that works? They got compromised, they didnt change.

I read this as sarcasm. Correct me if I’m wrong.

If it is, that’s exactly what I was saying.

Democrat Robert Byrd was a KKK segregationist. He fought to stop the civil rights movement. He then became the leader of the senate majority in the 90s.

So did he change?

No. He was part of the Southern "Dixiecrats" who were Democrats by tradition (going back to the days when Democrats were the conservatives on racial issues), but no longer really aligned with the party by the middle of the 1900s. The Civil Rights Act was the point when those Dixiecrats largely broke with the Democratic party and switched to the Republican party. Byrd was one of the very few exceptions who didn't switch.

He was never majority (or minority) leader in the 1990s, but he was in part of the 1970s and most of 1980s. That was largely due to insider party politics--as the most powerful Southern Democrat left, he essentially had control of what remained of the Southern Democrats and Democrats needed him and his delegation, which he leveraged into a leadership position in the Senate. This was the era that Joe Biden waxed nostalgically about this year, being able to reach across the aisle to have a good working relationship with segregationists, which created a backlash from liberals.

As far as I know, Byrd never really changed his views. But being a powerful member within the party, he never changed affiliations even if he opposed his own party on every issue related to race relations.

Nothing you said had anything to do with what I wrote. I was speaking of the capability(or lack thereof) of thinking differently about something that you used to feel the opposite about. I did not say anything about the morality or if it was good or bad or right or wrong.

I will give you an example;

I used to enjoy coming here and reading the forums and now I am seriously considering deleting my account and just saying fuck this place.

But according to how society is today me thinking that way is an impossibility because I liked this forum first so that is how I feel forever.

Please don’t do that. Basketball season will be here sooner than you think.

Wisconsin state supreme Court heard arguments on challenge to governor's stay at home order. This is same court that ruled in person election had to take place as scheduled even though thousands of voters who had requested absentee ballots had not received them.

Court, including recently voted out justice, made their position clear as they repeatedly interrupted witnesses, refused to allow testimony.

Note court was working remotely.

When state mentioned large outbreaks, a justice said these were meatpacking plants, not regular people. Regular people. Remember when LA racist former police chief said black people died from choke holds because their blood vessels didn't open as quickly as normal people?

Regular people. White and middle class. Those low income, black, LatinX, immigrants working in meat packing aren't regular people. Let them die.

Sweet stereotype. Keep in mind, not all states engage in full exploitation of illegal immigrants the way California does.

Just when you think this admin can't stoop any lower

FFFUUUUUCCCCKKKKK!!!!!!!!

Stunts. Media...

im not making excuses for the stunt. That is about as stupid as one can get.

But, I think the media helps propelle this line of thinking.

This was an idiot move by the VP.

First, No need to thank me. Its a breath of fresh air to be able to engage with someone of potential opposing viewpoints in a respectful manner. :)

So, I can agree with you on the deficit, though I acknowledge we seem to go on and on with it without real ramifications, even when we lost our top credit rating for a bit a couple years back (don't recall the year off hand). But at some point, there will be a collapse, no? The other factor to that is other countries buying up our debt. Countries we don't want to be in debt to. The larger our debt, the more we could potentially be wrapped into dealing with countries we do not want to deal with in that manner, like China.

See my thought is not any one of the above concerns I referenced I think can have real life effects, but when combining them all, the poverty level, I think will skyrocket. Unemployment already has. So one of two things in my opinion will need to happen in order to avoid a mass populous truly moving onto the side walks in the coming months.

1. Either the country will need to foot all their bills and send our deficit into a space unprecedented and likely not even thought possibly in years past.

2. Millions of people will go into a starving state, with no medical insurance. This will affect their health and some will die. but the bigger concern, is how many will die as those who become desperate start taking from others in order to feed themselves? The potential for civil unrest escalating into civil war/anarchy is a real concern I have in my opinion.

When people cant eat, they become desperate. History has proven this. So I suppose my real concern to not opening up, is not the deficit and the economical fall out itself, but what that fallout will means to the average person who cant pay rent, has no supplemental income(stimulus), ends up on the streets and cant eat.

Now regarding the phasing plan, I'm open to that, however currently the decisions being made of what to close vs what to leave open is a complete mess of contradictions. For example: not being able to fish in your own boat on a river. but being able to buy liquor.

When decisions like that are made, it makes the general public toss hands in the air and say, screw this. WTH, i'm going about my day. I may be wrong, but I have a feeling this is part of the issue protestors have in regards to the lockdown.

PS: the pointed fingers and accusational/insulting posts are prevalent here as well. However here it might be the opposite. :)
Yeah, the economy is in a dreadful position but the alternative is a living nightmare that is worse. Also, how good is the economy going to be when we have a quarter Million or more deaths and several Million infections?
