The senior issue shows complete ignorance on the Gov's behalf. That one pisses me off as it could have been avoided.
I thought their gas sales were a loss leader along with their barbecue chicken.

There breaking news about one of Trump's personal valets who has tested positive for covid-19...Trump is said to be pissed.

One of Trump's personal valets has tested positive for coronavirus

A member of the US Navy who serves as one of President Donald Trump's personal valets has tested positive for coronavirus, CNN has learned Thursday, raising concerns about the President's possible exposure to the virus.

The valets are members of an elite military unit dedicated to the White House and often work very close to the President and first family. Trump was upset when he was informed Wednesday that the valet had tested positive, a source told CNN, and he was subsequently tested again by the White House physician.
In a statement, the White House confirmed CNN's reporting that one of the President's valets had tested positive.
"We were recently notified by the White House Medical Unit that a member of the United States Military, who works on the White House campus, has tested positive for Coronavirus," deputy White House press secretary Hogan Gidley said in a statement. "The President and the Vice President have since tested negative for the virus and they remain in great health."
A White House source said the valet, a man who has not been identified, exhibited "symptoms" Wednesday morning, and said the news that someone close to Trump had tested positive for coronavirus was "hitting the fan" in the West Wing.
Trump, Vice President Mike Pence and the senior staffers who regularly interact with them are still being tested weekly for coronavirus, two people familiar told CNN. The White House is continuing to use the rapid Abbott Labs test, which provide results in about 15 minutes. Several officials who have received the test said it's often administered in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, next door to the West Wing on the White House grounds. A medical official swabs the staffer's nostrils and informs them that they'll be notified within the next several minutes if it's positive.

Pence staffer has now also tested positive.

Yeah, the economy is in a dreadful position but the alternative is a living nightmare that is worse. Also, how good is the economy going to be when we have a quarter Million or more deaths and several Million infections?

Yeah.

People aren't going to return to work in droves and return to stores in droves if they either are dead or afraid of contracting the virus, if not for themselves, at least for the risk of passing it on to someone else. Being a warrior for the economy isn't a lot of solace if you wind up on a ventilator for a week or infected Grandma.

That's part of this that was botched from the start, IMO. We never had that "the only thing to fear is fear itself" or "ask what you can do for your country" moment. The most resounding messages from a month of two-hour-long press conferences was "You know why I can do that? Because I'm the president and I have absolute authority" and "That's a nasty question." That and all these mixed messages and contradictions and constantly driving over your own towline.

In a desperate situation, as a leader, you need to find a way to make people feel you are empathetic with them. You need to make strong decisions and stick to them unless it is obvious after more info comes in that a change of course is necessitated. You have to appear that you are in command of the situation. If you get sidetracked, talk vaguely, don't seem to have a plan. and can't get your message across, how do you expect people to feel it's worth their while to go out more than they absolutely have to?

You can't say tests are available to everyone when they provably aren't. You can't tell people to wear masks and then not wear one yourself -- especially when you are part of the most at-risk demographic.

I think the federal government needed to push for a shutdown like the one we had, but across the board, earlier. It needed to make testing a priority and it had to grant protections for individuals and small businesses. If that had happened, I feel strongly we were looking at rebooting our economy by the middle of this month and that people would feel more comfortable in returning to routine.

All the mixed messages did was confuse people, create an everyone-for-themself mentality, and potentially set in motion a situation where we're going to have another partial shutdown that's just going to make it harder to bring the economy back.

I thought their gas sales were a loss leader along with their barbecue chicken.
They make skinny margins 4/5% on most whole goods they sell. In order to get their business you have to meet certain volume criteria. They sell limited SKU's and don't replenish seasonal items.
Im sure they make something on gas but need to hit volume targets. They have recently purchased their own chicken processing plant for the $5 buzzard bait!

I know they're losing money on the chickens and it seems impossible for them to make money on gasoline given their low low price plus the 3% rebate on gas. I see them as making money on everything else.

Nobody can "re-open" the economy if people largely don't want it re-opened. Many polls show that even if all the businesses re-opened a large majority of people wouldn't be comfortable returning to mixing with lots of other people at non-essential businesses.

Governors or mayors choosing to re-open things right now will just compromise the efforts already undergone and potentially for small economic benefit if many people don't return to shopping and engaging in services as normal.

it wouldn't surprise me if the Trump administration was trying to push the governor's reopen the economy. Only way Trump will have a chance in this next election is to get the economy going again and he knows it.

He's likely behind the scenes, pressuring some governors to reopen early. This way if things go south again he can deny any responsibility and claim "Hey, I gave the states guidelines to follow and they didn't"....conversely, if things hopefully get better he will take full credit and claim it was all because of his efforts/actions alone.

He's playing the "I can't lose". card.

Just took a look at the market. S&P index is over 2,900 again ... down less than 10 percent for the year in spite of this.

NASDAQ actually is up for the YTD.

A million doctors, a million opinions. This past Monday my cardiologist told me (very emotionally) that if I went out in public without a mask for at least the next 6 months, I was playing Russian Roulette, that this virus is nothing to mess with. I’ll go with his opinion......

If you never go out in public, you will be much safer!
