My latest Corona virus creation. There was a hiatus when I realized I needed more yarn. Normally that takes a few days, but Knit Picks closed their warehouse for extra cleaning and with so many people crafting these days they were so backed up it took 3 weeks, during which time my next project got well under way.

This can be worn as a sweater with jeans or a dress with tights and boots. Two problems: it's too hot for heavy alpaca sweater, and I'm not going anywhere. So this will live in a drawer for now with a branch of fresh bay leaves to keep moths away.IMG_20200531_080400.jpg IMG_20200531_080259.jpg

I noticed poor countries like Vietnam, Cambodia, Cuba, Tunisia, Slovakia, that haven't a fraction of the resources the US has, with a variety of political systems, did so much better for the simple reason of putting science and social needs first.

Both political and science communities let us down badly. Trump is most assuredly the worst president I could think of for a time like this. On the other hand, the CDC totally screwed up testing and gave conflicting messages on face masks.

Beautiful.

well, the CDC has several trump appointee's in senior positions. Under Obama (and for decades before) the CDC was the premier public health institution in the world. The rest of the world looked to it for leadership. It was highly credible

in 3 years under trump it's reputation has been completely trashed and has almost no credibility, nationally or around the world. Trump poisons everything he touches

I’m referring to the screwup in basic science in the development of the initial test kits where one of the chemicals included in the kit didn’t work right. That set our testing ability back a month or two. It’s my understanding that development of our own testing kits has been CDC policy for years, so I don’t think management was to blame.

What did you disagree with in his opinion?
I didn't see where he could have clearly disagreed with Roberts' opinion. It seemed possible to me that HailBlazers could have just been having some fun with calling Roberts King Roberts. True, he should have been more clear.

I like the part about wearing it with a dress and boots that follow the curves of my luscious legs. The potential drawback is that I only have tight fitting dresses. Will these work? Asking for a friend.

You do too much thinking. Get with MAGA.

yeah, that's been talked about a lot.

some of the projections of infection rates were ridiculous and rather quickly discredited (like 50-85 times reported positives). Seemed to be a lot of agenda behind those projections

there is also the unreliable nature of these anti-body tests....they are returning a high rate of false-positive results, but there's a whole bunch of different anti-body tests out there and it's a fairly un-regulated market

0.5%-1.0% seems credible. I'd bet it ends up a lot closer to 1% than 0.5%. But the actual mortality rate seems to be going down really slow. When we had tested 25,000 per million the mortality rate was 5.9%. We are now at 54,000 tests per million and the rate just dropped under 5.8%. I'd think it would be a lot steeper trend-line by now if it was going to end up well under 1%

White rioter causing damage swarmed and unmasked by protesters and handed over to cops

For the third night in a row, protests and violence wracked Washington D.C., with multiple fires breaking out on Sunday. In protest hot spots around the country, signs of division inside the groups of mostly young people roaming the streets is being documented on video.

Black protesters and their allies are increasingly calling out non-black people, usually dressed in black and wearing masks, who are found at protest spots causing damage. One video out of D.C. posted to Twitter by journalist Safvan Allahverdi shows a group of men spotting a rioter dressed in black who was smashing a curb with a hammer.

“Get the white people!” one man yells as another grabs the rioter from behind.

Soon after, four men wrestle the rioter to the ground, pull off his mask, and seize the hammer from his hand. At one point the rioter calls for help, possibly to an accomplice who was looking on.

The group then carries the man over to a group of police officers on the corner where they take him into custody.

anyway, this piece by Thomas Friedman is talking abut more than just the pandemic, but he puts things in pandemic terms. Long but thoughtful essay:

also, speaking of stoooopid trump photo-ops, several cadets from West Point forced to return and be a backdrop for a trump campaign stunt have tested positive of Covid:

Trump hasn't spoken to Dr. Fauci in weeks. He said he's bored with Corona virus.

105,000 Americans and counnting never have to worry about being bored again.

Stay home for 10 days after every time you go to a store or are around public facilities...this is not the time to be dumb about the pandemic....Lane County had 2 deaths and 65 total cases for the first two months...in the last week it's 75 cases and now 3 deaths....we had it under control but now people are whoopin' it up again and intermingling....I don't see the effort being taken seriously about the pandemic at all..wash your hands and wear a mask people!
